John Smithblack is a big dude. Probably best not to mess with him.
John Smithblack
John Smithblack, shoulders like hay stacks
a chest like a whisky barrel.
John Smithblack, don't ya turn ya back
don't ya get him in a quarrel.
John Smithblack, anvil on his back
with guns to sink a Galleon.
John Smithblack, he'll shake you Into cracks
whilst shaping shoes for Stallions.
John Smithblack, don't ya get him In a huff
cause he's got a mighty hammer
John Smithblack, he never says a word
so he don't need any grammar
Heat, bend, smack and twist
change, alter, manipulate
Heat, bend, smack and twist
change, alter, concentrated.
John Smithblack, not so fine and delicate
he never says a spoked word
John Smithblack, he's ready to attack!
For he'll strum you like a guitar chord.
John Smithblack, don't ya get him In a huff
cause he's got a mighty hammer
John Smithblack, he never says a word
so he don't need any grammar
Heat, bend, smack and twist
change, alter, manipulate
Heat, bend, smack and twist
change, alter, manipulate..
Heat, bend, smack and twist
change, alter, manipulate
Heat, bend, smack and twist
change, alter....so concentrated.. ...
solo
Heat, bend, smack and twist
change, alter, manipulate..
Heat, bend, smack and twist
change, alter, manipulate
Heat, bend, smack and twist
change, alter, manipulate..
Heat, bend, smack and twist
change, alter... so concentrated
Huh!
John Smithblack, don't ya get him in a huff
John Smithblack, don't ya (get him in a huff! )
John Smithblack, he's got a mighty hammer
John Smithblack, cause he's (got a mighty hammer! )

That is such a impressive into with the keys and drums and production, i like the lyrics and vocal, the song is really unique inventive and a little quirky with such a original style, impressive production all round, enjoyed, will liste on soundcloud too
You know I love this Paul... because you know what? It's so inventive musically. It wasn't exactly the vocals I am used to hearing from Pipes... they are brilliant but on this one he sounds a bit different then the ones I have heard lately... still incredible vocals however.
the music is quite proggy... it's like Styx and Kansas got together from the Paradise Theatre era...
some of my favorite music times those were and this is incredible! I like the way you answer the vocals with the lead guitar on the "John Smithblack" chorus.
interesting lyrics about a guy that maybe you had to be a little careful around... but likely why he was so good with that hammer! Cool rendition... sort of right up there with Tull as well.... brilliant stuff men
Loving the music as it twists alters manipulates and smacks you between the ears excellent solo loving the vocal and the catchy chorus lines
Ear candy got the early Kansas feel from the keys guitar and vocals everything in its pace
Bravo
Tim
Another stunner ! Fantastic instrumentation and production and a class vocal !
Pete
Oh yeah, another fantastic epic production from you guys. Brilliant instrumentation and the production/ arranging is first class. Always impressed with your guitar work, Paul. Great rock vocals too - another excellent collab from you two.
This is amazing work Paul ( and pipes) that prog influenced synth intro was spectacular mate..this sounds like it should be from a 70's musical.
That music and production is brilliant..so pro sounding. Love the solo.
Those vocals are so good..what a voice.
I'm not messing with that John dude.
Jesus, this is talent heavy. Sounds like Danny Elfman meets Trevor Rabin yet all original.
What a cool post. Wow.

The lyrics viewed on their own suggest a classic American folk song – not this crazy fusion of prog, electronica, and nu metal. %)!
A decent slice of prog. Well written, played and produced. I can hear several influences along the way but its never derivative, a totally original piece.
Seriously brilliant. That intro is so good... gives me an early Rainbow feel. I love the mix of styles, I even get a bit of AC/DC in there for a moment. Off the scale soloing and beautiful tone. But overall just the creativity is the winner here from all involved.
Mike
An excellent addition to the 2023 jukebox! This song is a wild ride! And such great playing.
great sampler selection.... glad I am listening again... this time I think the lyrics are great and that John was a blacksmith was the perfect job for that kind of guy... probably would do alot more damage if he wasn't... smashing things...
I especially love Paul's guitar work against the Nick vocals... so good

Excellent song .. Really liked the Prog Rock feel to it .. also the synth sounds great .. well played and produced.
Brilliant piece of work..
Defo progtastic, shades of Yes but heavier.
The synth intro with guitar is fantastic.
Well the vocal is exceptional.
Stand out for me are the drums programmed real?
Just a great recording and performance, loved it!!
fabulous production vocal and playing. it all sounds so complicated yet it all works perfectly
This warranted a bump to say the least. Still a huge wow.
Blooby
