She was a dancing jewel
Sat there on my lap
Me a drunken fool
Falling for the tender trap
Cold, cold my wife's eyes
I'd seen that look before
Cold, cold eyes
Between me and the open door
Looking through the prism
Of a very angry day
I knew she wouldn't listen
To what I had to say
Cold, cold eyes
I'd seen that look before
Cold, cold eyes
Between me and the open door
It's quiet here now
She's gone back to her mothers
I hear a car outside
She's sent round all her brothers
I hear the angry yells
I've heard those yells before
Angry, angry yells
They're smashing in the door.
Oh heck.
Smooth jazz is a good bed for this melody and words. The music is very easy on the ears and the guitar solos are as smooth as glass. Listening and following the words, it seems like you've stepped in it again, Ray. Watch out for those brothers, :(
man this has 70's pop greatness all over it Ray... like Hall and Oats or Ace or even Jeff Starship with Marty Balin...
lovely guitar leads in there.. really nice rhythm guitar work as well... it is a wide open mix with lots of space but it still is very interesting... and works it's magic for the great vocals... I don't even notice the darker lyrics ... yeah... those lap dances can be costly.
Smooth jazz indeed, enjoyable and entertaining. Very nice job creating the soft, hypnotic rhythm backing and the reverb-delay on the brush snare is perfect. The guitar arpeggios and solos clean and tasteful. Sounds like the guy in this story is in serious trouble but still has a good attitude nevertheless...
Loving that electric piano....excellent vibe .....great lyric as always ....perfect tone on that solo...loved it
I hope that weren't a true story ray..those brothers sound dangerous lol.
Brilliant song ray and a great story. Lovely smooth style music, love the vocals. Another classic
Oh my word! I've said this before that the imagery you create is superb. And then there's the music.
Marvellous my friend. Quite marvellous.
Paul
Such a chilled and mellow song this one Ray quite a contrast to the lyrical theme, really tastefully made, soft and ominous/mournful at the same time. i like the oh heck at the end . enjoyed
Smooth Jazzy Goodness so so good
Tim

This one ticks all the boxes. 70's - 80's vibes. Great sounds. Such a great arrangement. Nothing is rushed. Everything moves at an even pace yet always captivating the listener. Such great lyrics too... Telling a full story with select few lines. 5/5.
Jeez yeah, it's got to be so hard to ignore the dancing jewel... my imagination took over a bit there :)
Great tune, lovely laid back chill out.
Mike
