Title: JUDY BLUE EYES, cover CSNY
Post by: Jean Pierre on January 17, 2023, 02:18:38 AM
a mythical song..I still remember when I heard it for the first time ..at Woodstock
At that time I didn't know Crosby, Stll, Nash and Young at all ..a harmonic shock

That said, I NEVER SHOULD HAVE STARTED COVERING THIS SONG! :(  it limits my vocal skills!

to dissociate the three voices on the duration of the piece..a challenge, but once started, after multiple attempts, as I am stubborn I continued

Note that there is only one guitar with a tuning not usual E tunig modal EEEEBE! (in fact DDDDAD lowered the key of one tone )
modal because it is neither major nor minor, there is no third

As for the cover of Carry in, that I also made, I made only the first part of this suite...maybe if I have the courage I will make the suite

ah yes by the way thanks to Melodyne for the tonal corrections of accuracy ;D

Your talent is limitless, Jean!!!
This song is so hard to cover, and you made it sound easy.
Love your vocals and the harmony.
The guitar is also so nice.
Lovely, simply lovely.
Thanks for sharing this beauty!!!

Talk about a ballsy cover... Wonderful job. You put your stamp all over this killer cover. I need to put on some CSN(Y) soon.

thanks guys
the intertwining of the three voices in this song has always intrigued me..and it's very difficult to isolate Grosby's medium voice, it's easier with Still's low voice and Nash's high voice

in short, it was very, very laborious..and without melodyne (tonal correction) it would have been an filthy poop :)

QuoteI wouldn't have the patience to try this...

since the 70's, from time to time I tried to do this song...but it didn't sound good, I wondered how Stephen Still did this guitar part...in fact the E open modal tuning was totally unknown in our French countries, at least by me
it is rather recently that I discovered the open tuning of which this strange EEEEBE ! that Stephen Still often uses

For the voices it was laborious, if I had to do it again, I wouldn't do it again! Well, now that I did the most difficult part, I think I'll do the rest ;)

JP,
I almost add vocals last or very close to last.  Also when I write songs I tend to write lyrics and sing late in the process.  I need to try and do vocals first or up front and play around those.  I think the songs could come out a bit different.

JP,
