Title: The Wexford Carol
Post by: alfstone on December 13, 2022, 09:55:25 AM
YuleFest (banner image missing)

My contribution for 2022 Yule Fest.  :)

The challenge for me was to find something that had never been covered before here, mission (almost) impossible  ;D

so I had to go back to 15th century Ireland to find this little gem.

Just plain acoustic guitar (Gibson SJ200, through one of the many great acoustic presets ("Acoustic C") of my Kemper. Guitar tuning EADEAE (one million thanks, Davy Graham!)

Buon Natale a felice anno nuovo a tutti!

this is massive sounding... it is just like I am sitting over the top of the guitar playing it...although I don't think I can play like this!
wonderful and lovely!
stunningly gorgeous.

The sound is great, even if the automatic D/G balance bothers me a bit
The tune (which I didn't know) is just cracking, like all Irish music
There are many versions of this tune in the Wisthle...so maybe I'll learn it and play it, then we'll be at least 2 on SC to play it :RÉ

in the little ballad on you tube that followed this listening of Alfredo, the most beautiful version in my opinion is this one[

Merry Christmas to you Alfredo and to the whole community

I have an idea Alfredo!...as the tone of your arrangement suits my Low whistle in D, would you allow me to mix a Low D track on your piece, for a second alternative version?

of course i will only publish it if the result seems to be good, and with your approval, dear master :)

This sounds really great. Such an open sound and natural flow to the playing. Well done Alf!

This sounds really great, very tasteful playing.  Am I hearing some kind of dynamic panning that moves the left-right-left...?  It sounds cool.

Alfredo meet JP under the Christmas tree ;)

I really liked it yesterday when I heard this Irish Christmas tune (which I didn't know)
a very nice arrangement by our friend Alfredo in open tuning EADEAE dear to Davy Graham
..and as I was playing this tune on the SC jukebox,  I took my Whistle in D and it turns out that the improvised notes sounded right! ( open tuning EADEAE is an A sus 4 in the key of A major  ???

so I tried an A major chord and an Em chord with my AutoHarp: it turns out that I spent at least 1 hour to tune my AutoHarp, a few days ago, to the right pitch and I have to think that Alfredo is also tuned to the right pitch! it's the magic of Christmas

Thank you dear Alfredo for allowing me to publish this Christmas Jam !@011  .~i~.  *J}  =~~~  =~~~  }-)

Thank you

Nice re-mixed version Alfredo, very different from my previous draft

I find that the sound of the whistle is maybe a bit too reverberated, it gives a very ethereal sound which is superb but we don't feel anymore that it's an acoustic instrument, but this is a very interesting alternative version ;)

I just listened to the original post and the power of that lone acoustic guitar is massive and can stand alone against the greatest music sound and symphonies anywhere and hold it's head high.

I do admit though that these add's and new mix make this exotic... and possibly erotic...
I think I could use this with my lady in the bedroom and she would love it... and I love it right here, right now... It's massive... Congratulations to you both!  It's wonderful...
