Started with a casio key board stab, a kind of guitar thing... built this little riff... and first recorded a mono drum track from the Casio keyboard for 3 minutes using some variations of the pop setting. I took the drums to bandlab and doubled the track panned them left and right and added two different effects to them... I like the way they turned out.
Then I recorded that keyboard stab and another variance of it using a sax sound. Then I did a bass, using my Epiphone that I just replaced the strings on. I ran it through a $20 Behringer bass overdrive pedal that I added just a smidge of dirty to and ran that to the Zoom L-20.
Used my new Ibanez acoustic plugged DI to board clean and played a matching chord pattern to the keys and bass. Then I did vocals 6 tracks, 3 I discarded so I ended up with 3 that I did various effects and panning to.. (used MXL mic to Zoom L-20), mixed everything on the Bandlab software with some clean up and normalize tracks on Audacity first. Then I added an electric guitar track (Harley Benton, ran through bass overdrive pedal and then effected in Bandlab further). 20221006_171142_resized.jpg
NEW ROOF AND OUR HOUSE IS GOOD AS NEW!
Ha! Well, this is so reflective of me at the moment. Gotta love it. Peter Gabrielle vibe in places.
Don't know what to say about this other than it's cheered up my afternoon. Another unique song in your own unique style !
Pete
I think you've got a big box of win here. It's like Stevie Nicks and Phil Collins era Genesis had a heavy necking session and this came out of it.
The lyrics are positive, the overall sound has a touch of sadness. The melodies are airy and memorable. There's a touch of weirdnes to it, but overall i'd say this is Stephen going commercial! Even the outro makes sense.
I listened to the music first
It's very well constructed, very well mixed and thanks for the technical details it's always very interesting to have them
..then I read the translation of the lyrics
It starts well
QuoteThere's a leak in the roof, it's not a big deal.
...I knew that not long ago :)
Dear Stephen, I would like you to make a little space for me in one of your next productions to add some Weissenborn, Dobro or Lap steel guitar, depending on the style ;)
Heard this on the jukebox and thought it must be a cover of some catchy pop song and clicked to see the post to see who the artist was. An original ?!?! What !?!? Nice job man, you've got some really catchy hooks in there, in the keys, in the guitar, in the vocals. This IS a winner!

will do JP!!!! And I need to hook you up with Dumont, his stuff and your style will be amazing
Hey Stephen, excellent work again. From that little keyboard stab you've built another great catchy song.
The music is all really good, love the keyboards, guitars , drums. Always love your style of lyrics , the different genres you do and your vocals.
Darren
Really good track Stephen, really liked the beat and the vocals. The other instruments were also great. Great work.
It's a win every time you sit down to write. Kudos
You have a winner here Stephan. Your description of the process is as interesting as the song. You've managed to keep the recording very clean and crisp...nice work!
Always quality tracks from you, Stephen and I love the lyrical content you portray.
Steven, you definitely have your own style that Zappa would be proud of. ;D
If I may suggest raising some high end EQ on your repeats (delay) on your background vocals. I can barely hear them on headphones. Almost nil on speakers.
:) John B
very unique and quirky , that sounds a lot of work on this track, i enjoyed reading the process, bright and enjoyable
From a keyboard stab to a full production song so so nice I listen to your progressions in your songs and writing. Playing is so much smoother now and the vocals have reach another level all together Mix is on the money
Love it
Tim
Well constructed, hearing that casino surrounded with lots of stereo loveliness, that's a cool listen, enjoyed it lots!!
I really like this Stephen! It gives me a Lindsey Buckingham Tusk era song, great synths and an ominous chord progression here. Love the mix of acoustic and electric tones here too!
Glad not to have missed this one either. It seems weird to say it but even for you you seem to have experimented a bit with this one. And you reaped the rewards. Some great, odd but catchy sounds in here. I love the overall theme... don't give a shit... way to go. I am not so good at this myself... I do get bogged down with trivial, meaningless shit... but I do aspire to your attitude.
In a different but connected way nonetheless I loved a piece I read about one of the survivors from Azovostal... there was a guy in a I guess famous photo now, who although he had been bombarded to bits for months by the Russians he was photographed with a smile on his face from the underground bunker. I suppose most of the world must have felt how I felt... how can he be smiling? But same attiude as your song... life is shit, many shit things and horrors aplenty... but being down wont help.
You certainly got a great vibe going on here Stephen you certainly took my frown of the wheel
Excellent backer with fine lyrics! I admire the creativity by you. Another listening - sounds so good!
Getting a cars vibe.
Your style is very recognisable stephen.
Nice work, love the way you move those backing vocals in and out on your recordings.
Cool.
