Title: Precious Lies-Original
Post by: Johnbee on September 24, 2022, 08:11:02 AM
Brand new.  Enjoy!

You stand before me whispering your heart's desire
Your eyes are glowing with promises
of this love you'll give me only
But your eyes cannot hold back certain facts that are well known
You've been making such promises
to so many others times before
What motivates you? How many men have you deceived?
How many others fell to your web of deception
you have made so hard to ignore?

(Chorus)
Don't want your precious lies
or any other distractions
you might throw my way
Don't want your pretty eyes
misguiding me to promises you'll never keep
Silently you'll leave

You say you know me
All the things that bring me joy
Everything I can dream of
Then you should know my heart is no toy
You've a reputation
Careless with your promises
making hundreds of times before
vulnerable men broken-hearted fools.
How can your conscience let you go on and on misleading?
Is there a small part of your soul
that tells you that it's wrong to to be so cruel?  You must know.

(Repeat Chorus)

I can't ignore it.  I clearly see
So tempting.  Let yourself go.  Let her be your dream come true
Just one night can you pretend she is saintly
No doubt she is all I cannot fall for.

(Repeat Chorus)

Everything works well here. I like the composition and you have fine ideas on arrangement...stopping drums, adding strings etc...little things which give tasty flavor to your song.

Enjoyable listening, as always! I'm a fan!

Always class from you, John. Captivating melodies and love those 'free-range' bass lines. Great arranging/production; everything here tastefully presented.

This sooo stylish John.  And what a unique style you have too.  Cool piano lines going on and the bass is adventurous too.  I do love a bit of spiccato strings as well.

A very cool vocal line as usual.

Love it.

powerful story about the all too familiar types that show up once in a while... yeah.. hope it isn't too much a story that is real in your life...

wonderful tapestry of sounds, weaving around that bass and percussion that pins it together... meanwhile the strings and winds doing their lovely dance around the fire of the vocal lines, that actually defy the lyrical content... almost like the singer wants to go for it with the subject...but that voice of wisdom coming through stronger, and avoiding the temptation... that isn't of course good for the singer... and so this is a song of victory really...victory in avoiding that common snare!  well done John

Incredible chord progression - bass in pocket throughout!  I could never find a melody line like you have with your very distinctive vocal.

I am picturing vocal backup singers in places.

Great composition and performance.

Thanks so much Steve & Mike!  :)

Steve, you have such a way with words.
I did experience a similar situation way back in my youth.  The kind of girl who thought every boy was her boyfriend.  You know the type.  ;)

Excellent track - really tight production on it too, vocals nicely mixed and the slow build of strings throughout sounds brill, and the piano sounds lovely. Great work!

This is just amazing. There is so much going on here that works. I could make a list, but I'd run out of space. You've interlaced so many elements that create a beautiful production.

The melody provides an uncertainty that compliments the lyrics so well. The use of strings and harmonies is brilliant.

This is just amazing.

I love your adventurous melodies. I am curious if Brian Wilson is a big influence. They immediately catch my ear. Another tune that makes me wish I had spent more time on the piano. Nice introduction of the strings after that pregnant pause.

Really lovely tune.

I've heard this oh so many times. Never commented as i felt i wasn't ready to put it into words. I'm still feeling that way.

I really love the vocal melodies and vocal sound JohnBee is able to conjure and he's certainly my most favourite composer of complex songs. He has an interesting way of writing heady stuff yet keeping them rooted into reality so simpletons like yours truly can appreciate them. I think music like this could act as a "gateway drug" towards more refined musical genres. If only i'd hear music like this in the early days i might have not turned out such a sinner and player of devils music :D

All kidding aside. I truly enjoy your songwriting, performances and the art you're putting out there!
