Top quality cover! The guitars are irresistible and the whole groove really comes together. I love that funky wah part too. I dig it!

Great job!

Tell me more!

Was this all BR 800?

What about those vocal harmonies? Did you sing both parts? It almost sounds like a harmonizer effect.

This track was recorded using just the BR800 - the guitars ran through on-board effect patches, the drum arrangement uses the BR800 patterns and the harmony on the vocals comes from one of the vocal effect patches which adds harmonies to the vocal. The track was trimmed and normalized using Audacity and a fade-out added.

Cool! I may buy a BR 800 before the technology becomes 20 years old. I don't like the looks of any of the newer all-in-one units, and I avoid making music on my computer.

I used a BR600 until 2 years ago when I bought a BR800 as the BR600 wasn't supported any longer and I had a long winded method of transferring tracks to my PC. I struggle with DAWs so I find the BR simpler to use and the main benefit to me is having the built-in drum machine. The guitar and vocal effects are good too. On some tracks, like the one previous to this, I switch off the on-board guitar effects and use my own valve pre-amp pedal or multi-effects unit, so it's pretty versatile.

You really got into the groove here Pete. This had me nodding my head along here and tapping my foot to that infectious rhythm.

It's funny though, I kind of have the opposite problem as to whether to record using a BR or a DAW. Well I don't even have a BR to be honest but I have often thought of getting one, but the fear of using it has kept me recording on an iMac.

Back to the song... cracking stuff Pete, really enjoyed that!

Awesome job replicating the classic clavinet keyboard part with guitar - is that an "auto wah" effect?  I read about this song that Stevie Wonder, besides the clavinet, also played the drums and Moog Bass on the track.

He certainly had it didn't he Doug?  Dude has massive musical spirit... massive... can you imagine what he made that the public never got to hear?

Mr. Collins, you do the coolest covers!  This rocks... I would dig hearing this in a club, pub, whatever...

Yes, it's auto-wah...the FunkWah patch on the BR800.

That's the thing – the drum machine – that newer stand-alone units are missing. I got a little excited about the Zoom R20 until I watched a video demoing the drum features, which seem more limited than even the Micro BR.

Roland Zentracker software might be a reasonable option. I installed it on my tablet, but still need to try it.

But I still looking back to the BR 800 as maybe what I want, even though it's kind of old now.

Excellent cover Pete! Great job on the arrangement - Stevie apparently used 7 layers of clav on the original! Lots of skill, attention to detail and funkiness going on  ;D
