Title: A track for a 2022 album. i want to.
Post by: WarpCanada on April 10, 2022, 03:46:39 PM
Here's the first song I think I've written that has something special going on inside it, in 2022.  Rough demo quality recording.  But I wanted to get this down as it came to me in a matter of minutes, and had that bolt from the sky feeling.  I may re-record it better later.

i want to.
april 10, 2022

She told me that she is really over it.
But nobody really ever is over it.
I could criticize or I could mean it
in a good way.
Either way,
At least for day, we're here,
and growing older.

If that means we're not getting any wiser,
And that's still not half bad.
Darling it's sunny outside.
Don't be so sad.
[It's not a day we should live inside our heads.]
it's gonna get better.
And it's gonna get brighter
even if it never gets better.
I'm growing older
Growing Older with you.

There's a place you never go
at least not willingly
It's also a place that you
can never leave.
There's a thing that you want other people
to think about you.
Something you wish was true.
But it's wool you can't pull
over anyone else's eyes.
Not even yours.
There's a word that you [often] say
that doesn't mean what other people
think it means.
But I know you.
Or at least I think I do.
Or I want to.

Probably anybody who has lived long enough to have some old drama and water under the bridge, can identify with the feeling here.  I hope you like it.

"And it's gonna get brighter
even if it never gets better.
I'm growing older
Growing Older with you".

Sweet...
Feels like one of those classic Willie Nelson offerings.
All the best with the album

Nice country beat, and good guitar music.
Very nice!
Thanks.

I like the lyrics.  They seem to meander into a few different directions which is the making of a very creative mind.  I really liked the idea of lets not be unhappy...today is not a day to live inside our heads... as it is sunny outside..
man don't we often spoil the sunshine by livin in our heads...

right away I thought of Willie Nelson, just as Nelson said.. and it morphs into more..

would be worth recording more but as is it kind of reminds me of an old , very old record, kind of the the wind up kind of record player.

Perhaps "rough demo quality" as you mentioned, but I like the old record vibe as Stephen said. Very warm performance and fine song!

It has a nice tender quality to the songwriting and the way it's recorded. You should keep that soft, Willie Nelson style whisper - it really works. Bit of Fred Neil in there too. A charming song.

This track has that certain kind of "sitting on a porch" -type of magic going for it. The vocals are vibey and performed on a whisper level. The playing sounds at times like it's close to falling yet everything is kept together.
I think this "rough demo" quality gives it an aura of authenticity and makes it more believable and honest sounding. I guess it's possible to polish this into a more commercial sounding recording, but to keep this feel going in a more polished "product" might be tough nut to crack.

Great song and a performance.

I dig the rough edged recording on this. It gives an alt country sorta feel to it. The melody and lyrics are great, I'm getting a Wliie Nelson vibe too. I'm very intrigued to hear more from the album you are working on!

I very intimate and vulnerable performance. Love the layered vocal effects. Great melody.

I agree with Zoltan, you could very well do a more polished version, but this is where the magic can start disappearing sometimes. The trick is to capture the moment and you have done that for sure here.

I always look forward to your songs. This sounds very genuine and you can definately pull of an authentic country song.
