I remember this one was from '72! Off the double album Something/Anything. This one of the most perfect pop songs of the 70s, it's amazing the range Rundgren wrote. I wanted to do it some justice so I tinkered with this one to make it sound more like the record (and recorded like a bagillion tracks :)). Todd Rundgren is an absolute master of arrangments (dare I say, he's quite an influence on me musically) and it took a while to get the guitar solo and vocals in a good place but it's coming together now. Enjoy...

Wow - this is off-the-charts great, Keith! The slide guitar, bass, and vocals are perfect.
Top-notch in every way - well done!
Wow! So well played and sung and an outstanding job of managing all of those parts. And of course, Todd's version was a one man band too. But this is like you're walking along while stepping in Todd's footsteps. All of the instruments and vocals sound very much in the same timbre and played in the same style as the original. Bravo!
Wow! Indeed. I am a big Todd Rundgren fan this is gold dust to me. Bravo! My hometown in Clydebank Glasgow, had an unusually large fan base for TR. in fact Wet Wet Wet (local band made good)had a number one uk single "goodnight girl" which was a near copy of "it wouldn't really make any difference ". Rather than Todd suing the wets they covered "it wouldn't really make any difference " and put in on the b side so Todd got royalties from that.
Top class cover in every way !
Pete
Fantastic cover! I've never heard anybody cover this song before because it's a difficult song to do properly, but you nailed it, Keith!
From the vocals to the instruments, you have channeled TR perfectly. Amazing cover!
If anyone could pull this off so well it would be you! fantastic cover of a fantastic song....
now for "Love Is The Answer".....
oh and that perfect lead

You did very well on this project.
Thanks for sharing.

My favourite TR song and you've done a great job, Keith; well done.
Congrats Keith on pulling this off so well. That song is a massive undertaking but you did a brilliant job. It's a great song. I was actually listening to some Todd Rundgren not so long ago discovering him for the first time although I knew this track before. the sounds you created here are just fab and the production is brilliant. You have so much of the spirit of the original which is some feat.
Mike
I knew you would absolutely nail this when I saw it posted. It's one of my favourite songs, so I know every nook and cranny of it. It's breathtaking how you matched every last detail of Todd's playing and masterful production. Everything - vocals, guitar tones, and those complex backing backing vox are spot on. You've taken my already high expectations up another notch!
Nothing short of stellar.
Ok - I'm onto my third listen, and I can't fathom how you did this. You could get a bunch of the best session musicians in the best studio, and they couldn't do any better than this.
This is really joyfull and very accomplished - take a bow!
This is so flipping good it literally puts me into a trance every time I play it......astonishingly brilliant....and recorded on Garageband on an iPad.......unreal

Tim
Fantastic cover .. its sounds extremely good ..
Great work
gotta also mention how great that bass is...perfect!
This is just plain great and right up your alley! If there's someone who could do this justice it's Berrypatch.
I went thru few of those Todd Rundgren songs and gave up without trying... Now i noticed that i hadn't even DARED to comment on a Rundgen song :D
In a way this is ever better than the original. Your voice sounds SO good. The playing is so vibey and everything gels together so well. Really ear pleasing aural experience!
Wow BP. This is a stunner. Freaking nailed it. Impressive guitars and slide. Really dug this
yes, a great song and a great cover, congratulation Keith
Holy crap dude, this is amazing!!!!!
Rock on!
I've listened to this several times but not commented. This is a masterclass, just a fantastic cover of the song.
When I was researching 1972 songs for the fest, my heart melted when I heard and remembered this one. I think it's my favourite song of the year and your version is spot on perfect.
When I first saw your post my humble version was already in production and I've been thinking what to do with it ever since. I decided not to bin it but I have changed my approach.
Anyway, my hat is off to you for this.
Nick
:)
I have only a vague recollection of this song, but your performance and production on this is absolutely spectacular in every way. I'm glad that, after being too busy at work the last few months, I've now been scrolling down the pages on the site to listen to all the 1972 covers and glad didn't miss this one. You're playing all the instruments, except the drums (but I bet you could do that if you wanted), at a stunningly high level of accomplishments. And your singing is off the chart good too!
