a new lap steel guitar workshop exercise by JP only 1 strumming guitar track and 1 lap steel guitar track
Amazing Grace is one of the most famous Christian hymns in the English-speaking world. The first publication of the written lyrics dates from 1779. Combined with various melodies over the years, it is now performed to the music of New Britain.
The theme of this hymn is the forgiveness of sins through faith in God and salvation by grace (hence the title, which can be translated into French as "grace splendid"), which refers to its writing by the former slave trader John Newton, who considers himself a repentant sinner and saved by divine grace.

I love the sound of that lap steel, nice cover !
Pete
Sounds good! Nicely countrified version of Amazing grace :)
you have played this wonderfully...wonderfully JP
it's not my favorite because it gets overplayed to much (just my opinion). I love the song words and what it means though. I loved Freebird by Lynard Skynard but after hearing it 3000 times on the radio I could never hear it again. I don't know why I am saying this ....ha
your guitar work is splendid....
Thanks guys
Yes it's true, Stephen, it's overplayed..but anyway, from my part of France I didn't know the history of this song, I discovered it on wikipedia...very interesting
for the next lap steel guitar workshop, I'll try to find something..not so standard ;)
Very nice !!!
I didnt think I'd ever listened to something new in a cover of amazing grace ... but I didnt keep into account you JP ;-)
Fantastic version !!!!
Damn, you put the swamp in that tune...a little fire and brimstone.
Loved this to pieces. Downloaded.

If I'd heard this without knowing it was lap steel, I would have thought it was pedal steel. Well done.
This song never moves me the way it does so many people. But I'm a sucker for steel guitar, so congrats: I like it!
hello Ted
my lap steel (low coast, Harley benton 79 euros ;D), ... is equipped with two mutlbenders (expensive! 279 euros :() kind of vibrato levers that allow to raise two strings of a half tone or a tone, a bit like the pedal steel
..I made a kit with two Harley Benton lap steels (the upper one is equipped with multibender levers, the lower one is tuned differently, the whole thing is a cheap alternative to a steel pedal, which costs a lot of money (my son-in-law got one (the lucky one) from his wife for Christmas! ) ..but then what a learning curve with this thing...

AHA! So I was hearing things that are not possible with a regular lap steel.
To approximate pedal steel sounds, I've often contemplated getting a B-Bender kit for my Telecaster, but I think I'd like to play around with one first to see if I really want the commitment.
What a beautiful, rich sound! Amazing! (music and grace).
Terrific JP. Always a tear jerker. Love your rendition of this
