Title: Avocado's Number

NumbersFest (banner image missing)

I was driving around this morning after dropping my son at school.  I was random playing some SC stuff off my USB drive ... Bruno's great song https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=31961.msg380949#msg380949 (Rooted In PI) came on... got me thinking how good it was and how much I dig numbers and statistics and love to mix facts and fiction (fits right onto today's news huh?).... so I got thinking about Avogadro's number... and of course with my crazy side it fell in with the fruit known as Avocado....
and then since my background is engineering and electrical/electronics I just had to throw in the Coulomb and ampere stuff...
this was alot of fun and it is my 2nd Audacity project.  First one really where I did all the mix on audacity.  I recorded the tracks on the Zoom and then transferred to the computer... I need to try to interface with this...but I am under no real need to...
this was as much about me playing with and learning audacity a bit as it was the song itself... I started with just a vocal...alone.  Threw that out and just played bass or tried to and sang (or tried to) at the same time.  I adlibed until I liked it enough.  Bunches of cut and paste for backing vocals from the only vocal track.  Really like playing with this software...I used the true condenser mic... I liked it for this...
and I "Played" a D and G harmonica also and then added the drum strikes.

Brilliant.. I think we both must be having a crazy day today !
The vocal's very clear.. is that the built-in condenser mic on the Zoom?  I used the built in condenser on my Boss on my track today as it was just a quickie recording and I couldn't be bothered getting my mic out.

Pete asked about the mic.  short answer no...it was not the onboard zoom mics...the new zoom doesn't have that and the R24 which I have used many times as you know I decided lately to do things differently to see what if... I am not even sure what brand this is.  I bought it years ago on sale for about $60 from Musician's Friend I think...I didn't really like it.  To be fair I really didn't like any mic.  It might be my singing lol...actually all my mics are getting better as I am learning about EQ and not using so much effect on the main track...still so much to learn sigh!!!  But its all fun

At times it felt like you were doing electronica without electronica (if that makes sense?). The outro harmonica riff was bonkers and a highlight. Not because the song ended soon after that, but because it was a perfect introduction to your spoken word love letter for Italy!

Hehe... you're a crazy man!

I'll say this, though - I was into it by the end.

My whole approach to everything is "write a song, now record it as good as I can (what I can hear in my head) as fast as I can"
The technology interests me only in knowing techniques to do that.
I experiment in private to find those out.
Occasionally, something might happen accidentally that I end up going "cool, I can use that" - but then I wrestle it into a shape where it fits my original vision for the song.
I've never felt drawn to experimenting as part of the creation process.
For me, all the creation goes on in my head, and what I can physically achieve with my voice and fingers...

So it's interesting hearing stuff like this, a completely different approach, and discovering I'm drawn into it as a listening experience by the end.

Nice one :)

I remember a bit of the terminology from physics (never liked that class all that much! :) ). Totally zany and off the wall. I love the addition of harmonica on here, I don't think Ive heard you use one before. I'd love to hear you use it on more songs.

Totally mad track, Stephen! Didn't know you played harmonica. I think we all wonder what you'll come up with next!

Amen to that Ray. You are a great addition to the site Steve. Not many of us brave enough to but it out there the way you do in terms to totally not giving a shit. But hey... this is your second tune to feature "avocados" or is there more... maybe a concept album about killer avocados would be worth looking at? :)

Bonkers but brilliant!

Crazy brilliant stuff Stephen.  A shit ton of experimental brilliance going on here.   I enjoyed this a lot.
