Another "full production one". I haven't really been feeling in the mood to record lately though recording this is getting me excited to write more. I used my new Epiphone SG Classic to record the guitar parts (with P-90s :P) and started this one on Garageband (tracking Piano, Bass and GB drums) before putting it on the BR 1200 again.
Epiphone SG Classic Worn
Epiphone Viola Bass
Korg Piano
Mellotron App
Godin Acoustic
Shure Sm58
Fender Blues Junior Amp (with Fuzz Factory Pedal added in certain places)
GarageBand Drums and Electric Piano
Mixed on a BR 1200
It was such a nice start for the day to begin with hearing a song of this pedigree. The production is top-notch and your songwriting skills really shine here. The arrangement is also superb. There's so much to hear with this one and there are several layers of sounds, hooks and ideas to be heard. Your vocal sound is always warm and there's (especially in this song) that instantly pleasing 70's feel to it all. This sounds like a hit from the days gone by. The kind of song that isn't instantly hitting you in the head with a huge main hook, but a one that's filled with several. The playout sections were also a real joy and the outro.
Such a great song!
ah, the master comes through again!
I have read your lyrics for a while now (back there with "Raging Fire" ) I think it was called and onward. My observation is that you are an older soul. I don't want to sound too airy fairy or new agey but your lyrics ask questions and make observations that only a wise soul can do. When I was your age it was mostly about getting the next beer or finding some weed. I just want to congratulate you on your focus!
another great song Keith. I am not even remotely qualified to comment other than to say it's great.
Dude...Outstanding brother. Top quality production, has a bit of a 70s stadium band kinda feel.I dig.
Rock on!
gaun yersel young berry. fabulous.
This is great, Keith. Everything shines here - the playing performances, the production, the vocal and the lyrics are insightful social comments that work so well. Super stuff mate; well done.
superb song keith great sound and mix smart guitar work .....cheers tony cee
Love the chord changes, the Melotron work and the general atmosphere. I'd say bring the drums up just a bit in the mix.
:) John B
Great work Keith, love the melody, very sophisticated, but instantly pleasing on the ear. Some great lines in there, especially that "Nothing will hold if the centre does not". It's true it has that gentle classic 70s rock feel.
Just a little aside... there is a slight touch of Ozzy to your vocals on this one. But a version where Ozzy can actually sing as your vocal is a lot better than his.
Mike
That's really great and well put together. Love thé Melotron. The Ozzy resemblance struck me too.
Real nice song and the production sounds perfect to my old ears. There's nothing I don't like about the piece.
The Gobi Desert Canoe Club
Fantastic sounding track. So well produced and performed.
Thanks for all the comments guys! Interesting to hear the Ozzy comparisons, I personally love his voice. He only got better as Black Sabbath progressed and had a real command of the mic. He certainly didn't get overpowered by the music. His voice was perfect for the band imo...
This song has some excellent production and mix details in it...I love the break at the 3 minute mark as the set up for the guitar solo that follows...well done there! I too hear the Ozzie tone in your vocal, but you stay in tune much better. A lovely song and the Epi SG with P90's sounds excellent!
Just brilliant songwriting and performance!!
This has a strong 70's vibe, imo. It would deserve time on air...perfect pop song!
I thought I had commented on this earlier? Certainly meant to do so... better late than never, I suppose.
Loved it from the first Mellotron note! The pianos reminded me a bit of The Beach Boys, and the guitars in places reminded me of Badfinger, but it's all you Keith. Just a perfectly put together pop-rock song.

I've become a big fan of P-90 pickups lately. I picked up a used Epiphone Casino (made in Korea) last year - I love the sound I get out of its pickups!
Really good song, really liked the 70's vibe to it .
All instruments sound really good and so is your vocals.
Also really well mixed/mastered.
Great work
Blindingly brilliant song writing, playing and recording.....what can you say....love that punchy bass...and what great vocals......
Im a fan of your stuff, your vocal is instantly recognizable.
The drum prograing on this is clever also and I love the fills, they give the song a dynamic.
Music is excellent, a belter of a track.
Excellent.
Loved those dual guitars right out of the gate. Lovely sounds wrapped in a wonderful arrangement. Great performances all the way around and a banging production. Really loving the bass in this (Crikey!). Such a strong tune. Again, great arrangement.
Wow, that was good.
Blooby
What a truly wonderful song.
Just makes you happy listening to it.
Fabulous performance and brilliant arrangement, from the mellotron and piano to the guitars and bass and the clever use of triple(?)-tracked vocals that then changes to widely spread octave vocals and back again. Excellent
I'm a fan!
Great song, very 70's feel. The playing and production is outstanding, even down to little details like that little left to right panning around the 3.00 mark. Great vocals and harmonies too !
Pete
Stunning production....Really reminded me of Todd Rundgren. Every instrument shines, loved the lead guitar tone, and your vocals, lead and harmonies are great????
Oh this is a total knock out for me.
Wonderful.
Loving the arrangement/production. You seem to know instinctively how to add interest when needed but not over-do it. And then, when mixing, ensure each little bit gets it's appropriate moment in the spotlight.
The song and the vocal are superb.
The whole thing is just fabulous.
Digging those P90s too.
I can hear the Ozzy reference but it is a upgraded much better version. I know I am late to the party and not sure how I missed this one so I am glad I got to listen to this today. The production is outstanding as is your norm fantastic piece
Bravo
