This song starts with the question, "Why do I do this? What's the point?" There are other easier hobbies I could could explore that wouldn't be quite so nerve-racking but when I reach the end of the long process it suddenly becomes worth it. The last part of the song, I guess, reveals the reason.
Sorry I've not been around much lately. I will take a listen to some other's songs later today.

Nice one John, good to hear you again.... Alex
Closed my eyes on the Orig Songs Board and just clicked, and hey! This sprang onto my speakers. Y'know, this kind of ruminative-dialogue exploration in song, always sounds and reminds of those introspective American songwriters Randy Newman, Dean Friedman et al, which is a dang-plus point to begin with, and then to wrap it up in a fluid, jazzy-style keys-and kitchen-sink ensemble (I'm sure I counted everything in the mix!!), is quite a feat and quite masterful. John B, well done sir, if this is your niche, you've found it. Way to go! 8) 8)
It's soothes the soul. That's why I do it. Frustrating at times. But a finished product always feels good. Also, I can't bowl for shit.
This jazzy number is right up my alley. The drums really accentuate your soulful sounding piano and vocals.
Nice work.
Classy, thoughtful and poignant as always, with lots of sonic ground covered. I especially loved the extended latin jazz interlude and the beautiful resolution of the last two verse parts. Delightful piano throughout and masterful arranging. The fade out reminds me of the end of Wichita Lineman - full of emotion. Wonderful!
Really a wonderful song with original and beautiful phrases in the melody.
A really pro production and the performance is stellar
Well done. Hope to hear more soon
Lovely keys playing. This is a cool arrangement (loved the strings and instrumental passage). It sits somewhere between prog and Broadway. Really enjoyed this one.

I've found that doing music helps me with stress and it's a bit of escapism from the mundane things of day to day life.
This is a really great song, lyrically and musically. It reminds me of Christopher cross songs.
Lovely jazz feel but also as someone said a prog feel too. I can imagine this being in some broadway musical too.
Great vocals and music all round.
Darren
Brilliant song, I especially love bass throughout, I love all the little slides and what not. Some great poignant lyrics, you always seem to put so much though into your words and it really shows. Love the piano as well and the funky twist in the middle is a great, unexpected shift. I love to hear from you John!
I think we can all sympathise with the sentiments here John :D It's another very classy song. I love the way you balance the bass, drums and keys to anchor the song. As (primarily) a bass player, I hate it when I have to struggle to hear the bass. Your arrangement and mix creates space for all three, and although there's a lot going on melodically it works really well.
The composition here is one of your best. There's so many different sections, I particularly liked the change between the verse and the instrumental sections. Also, the more staccato section towards the end with strings and piano is really effective. But the whole thing is fantastic and really holds your attention. Great vocal over the top and lovely production, it was worth the wait ;)
Great song! The piano playing is jazzy and cool. The bassline has a fusion jazz vibe to it. The lyrics and vocals are a perfect blend. I like the harmony you're building and the synth string stuff etc. that's used to pepper the sound picture. I like the way you're hearing things even though my simple brain could never reach these levels :) The pizzicato string part is one of the many highlights of this song and i like the latin influenced playout section that follows. There's a late 70's early 80's vibe to the songwriting and it's cool to hear stuff like this being done.
Hi Groundy, Steve, guitarron, Greeny,Geir, Blooby, Darren, Berry,Ferryman & Zoltan-

Nice work.
this one cracked me up Ron...ha!!!
I wanted to hear this a few times prior to commenting on it...typically great song John...most of your songs seem to be introspective and personal...that is not easy to share that openly like that....I suppose though this is a better way to do it than some other ways I can think of.
I wonder sometimes what is my legacy....well I suppose it will be "Peanut Butter on Pizza"....at least it's original...lol...
there's giants in the world (not physical ones but ones who do great things) and then there's me...I drive a Hyundai Accent 2006 with 250k miles on it...I love it too...
why am I saying all this? hell if I know...that is just how I am...
as with all your songs John... I will place this on my thumbdrive and as I drive around I listen to the SC folder...and so somewhere on the planet there is some one listening to you...and I hope that is true for me as well....and for me that's ok!
blessings sir!

I love this reply by Stephen... this is the great thing about SC. First to say there are some, many actually, songs on this site that warrant a much wider audience. That is a bit sad to be honest, but thinking about what Stephen said, there are folk on here that will listen to songs on here that they like and have downloaded in their spare time and listen because they are damn good songs.
But I know what to expect when you post a song John, in terms of quality anyway. This is classy, great chords, musicianship and arrangement and I do particularly like the soft synths and strings you have added in the background which lift the song up a level.
Mike

Peanut butter pizza will be next pineapple pizza
Lost for words ! It's a fascinating work, just as I was amazed at one part, then another even better part comes in holding the attention right through to the end. This just oozes with musical talent !
another great song john , superb lyrics and vocal , and wow love the keys , brill .....cheers tony cee
Hi Tony C, Pete, guitarron (again), StevenM and Mike S-
Thanks for listening, guys.
:) John B
Wow - this is a monster of a song, John. Absolutely love this. Full of drama, twists and ambition.
I agree, this is an interesting little theatrical journey. It would not be easy to keep this show on track from beginning to end, but I believe you did. Great job with all the instruments and I thought the piano work is especially well done.
Thanks, Hooper & Chappers
