I'M new here and I have a new Micro BR. I'm following the manual trying to play the demo song. The display shows that the thing is working but I cannot hear anything through my earphones. I've checked the volume control on the BR and I've checked my headphones..they work.
What am I not doing right?
Thanks for your help.
Did you check the MasterLevel? (Utilities|MasterLevel)
How about the Track Levels?

Call Roland customer service if youre unable to sort it out.
If youre following the manual it shouldnt be tough...it may be something simple that you may have overlooked but, it may also have issue...you really shouldnt be having problems if youre following the manual.
Did it work and then just suddenly not work?
Did you try other headphones?
I heard of people having problems with using headphone that are not the right impedance for use with the MBR. Needs to be between 32-100 I believe.
No chance you are adjusting the input control (on the right)rather than the volume (on the left)?
Hey folks!
Found out what it was.
I had to press the input button and choose "MIC". The thing was set on "GTR when I got it out of the box. I can now record and play back with it.
However, the SD card that came with it does not have the demo song on it. Will this be a problem for any reason?
Guess I better read the 137 page manual that came with it!

It will only be a problem if you're following the manual to play the demo song and you can't hear anything through your earphones. ;)
If you bought your Micro BR new in a factory-sealed box, I'd be very surprised if the memory card doesn't include the demo song. I think it's more likely that you just haven't figured out how to access it yet. However, if it really is missing, you can download a zip file of the original factory data here:

That would certainly be a good idea! You should also consider buying the DVD Tutorial for the Micro BR. I think you'll find it a lot easier to understand than the manual and you'll become comfortable with your Micro BR's many features a lot quicker. See this topic for more info and sample clips:

I watched the entire video today and it's really quite good, especially for beginners.
Thanks everyone for your input. I'm not sure what happen to the demo song but it is not on the SD card. I've been reading the manual and have a better feel for the Micro BR now, but I'm considering getting the DVD tutorial also.
Also, I've spent some time scanning this forum and it looks like a very good one to be a part of. Again, thanks for your help!
I believe I'm having the same problem. I have another card to swap, but wanted to play the demo song just to be sure the unit is working at all before formatting the new card.
The Quick Start instructions couldn't be simpler:
Power on
Utility
TR1
TR1 again
When I then use the plus/minus buttons to try to select a song, it shows
01:SONG0000
It doesn't change if I try to change it via the Value plus or minus.
I have to run errands but will return to this tonight...
Push the mp3 button!
When I do that I get
:No File!
00:00:00 100%
PS- I was going to call Boss support, but it doesn't look like they have phone support for this product (no Support phone number in the Manual nor on their web site). I could just assume all is well and that they simply gave me a blank SD card or something, and put the other card in and see if it will format, but I'd feel a lot better if I knew for sure that the problem isn't something else.

I think your card is empty - If there are no additional songs and no mp3, most likely the card has been initialized.
Maybe take 64Guitar's advice and use the Original Factory Data link?

Where did you buy your Micro BR? Is it used or reconditioned? I believe that all new BRs from Roland come with a 128MB memory card that includes the demo song. You might want to check with Roland. If you believed that you purchased a brand new Micro BR, I'd be concerned that the dealer may have actually sold you a reconditioned unit or store demo that was carefully repackaged.
The demo song itself isn't a big deal as you can download it from the link I posted in an earlier message in this topic. I just don't like the idea that somebody might be selling used/reconditioned Micro BRs as new. So check with Roland and ask them how it's possible that a brand new Micro BR does not include the demo song. If they say that it's not possible, then you might want to have a word with your dealer.
Once I registered with my address and phone number etc. it let me see their support phone numbers.
I called them, they concluded that the card does NOT contain the demo song, and basically said "it's not important." The support rep didn't even know whether the SD card was supposed to have already been physically installed, or if it ships uninstalled elsewhere in the packaging (the card was already physically installed). I wasn't impressed by the support.
Anyways, I bought it new from a Sam Ash Music store brand new, and nothing about the packaging raised any alarms with me. I just installed a 2G Sandisk card in its place (I know it can only "see" 1G) and it seems to have initialized okay. So I guess I'll find a recording tutorial and see how it goes! Thanks.
Postscript: It works. It works well. I followed the "first steps" and this thing is...
AWESOME :)
I'm already beyond satisfied, and that's after fifteen minutes of use. I couldn't be more pleased! Insert screams of joy here. Thanks for the help.
