That lady I loved could've walked on water
Mother to her son, mother to her daughter
I broke her heart with the troubles I brought her
She deserved better than me.
The sight from my eyes, the sounds from my ears
The strength from my bones, the salt from my tears
I'd give them all if I could turn back the years
She deserved better than me.
The lies that I told the mistakes I made
To be lonely and old is the price to be paid
A love that went cold, a love betrayed
She deserved better than me
She deserved better than me.
Now the curtains are old, the garden untended
So broken our hearts so to be never mended
What the priest began the solicitor ended
She deserved better than me. Better than me.
So lovely Ray, thanks for posting.
Very nice. Perfect for Sunday morning here.
A bittersweet love song ray. Fantastic music, kind of reminded me of a Beatles song. Love your lyrics and vocals :)
great song ray very sad song love the tones in your voice , and brill piano playing great sound with the drums .love the lyrics.....cheers tony cee
WOW
Perfection
It reads and feels authentic and true
Line after line of wonderfully constructed heart wrenching gems.
And the music and your heartfelt vocals lends to the feel and brilliance of the lyrics.
Outstanding Ray
A great piece of writing and composition, it tells a compelling story and the arrangement just helps that storytelling. I loved the restrained but very effective guitar solo and as always, it's beautifully sung, played and recorded. Nice work Ray.
Completely blown away by this. Sublime, classy songwriting and performed to absolute perfection. Is that a fretless bass? I love those little fretless wobble / burble sounds - like Kate Bush. And the poignancy of it - just seems so real. What a talent!
perfect song of regrets....
love the lead guitar..... fantastic...like wow.... reminds me of an old Bob Seger song.
the electric piano is nice and all the little jazz chords...and the organ I love too...
of course your vocals always draw me right in...they are warm and soothing and inviting..
Besides all the good words everyone has expressed, I'd like to add that the music flow of building and adding instruments, fullness and passion then returning back to the basic vibe was perfectly implemented. Great work all around!
that's a gem, and the way music and lyric match makes it so very touching.
WOW
beautiful.
I agree. It's perfect! Even you couldn't make it better. They lyrics are lovely and heartfelt with the perfect music, as is the recording and mix. This is a fine gem in every way.

Great work from start to finish, everything just works so well together on this, beautiful track
Great song I was listening to this when the wife came out and she says nice someone wrote a love song then mid way through she is listening and comments that guy in the song sounds like a dog I hope this is not based on his life. lol
Anyway I loved it and the playing is outstanding as per your usual
Tim
This is almost too intimate – like opening someone else's diary. And so well done.
Beautiful song and the instrument arrangement is spot on perfect, The emotion from every facet of this song is so raw
Thanks for sharing this wonderful song
A great, lost love, ballad Ray! The piano sounds fantastic as does the stand up bass. I like your moving lyric and the way you present them in this song. The guitar solo was quite tasty. Very well done!

I am always impressed by the compositional and instrumentation skills of my friend Ray, and the song is very beautiful
