Absolutely love 10,000 Maniacs and this is without a doubt my favorite song by them. The recording is Piano, violin & cello so I decided to go Uke, Sax & flute. Sax & flute are my EWI (electronic wind instrument).
1 uke/vocal (stereo)
1 sax
1 flute

That was a very good listen Hook. Very chilled out, it had a really calming effect. I don't know the 10'000 maniacs at all, but this is a great song. You sang that really well too and I love to hear the Sax. Nice.

Beautiful song, I can see why you would want to cover it (though I'm not familiar with 10 000 Maniacs). Lovely vocal and sax/flute combo (that EWI thing must sure come in handy) :)
I remember 10,000 Maniacs - Natalie Merchant, yeah! :) I don't remember this song well, but it does sound familiar.
I absolutely love how you've done it. The EWI sax & flute sound fabtastic, with the uke of course ringing like a bell.
crazy good and fine Hook...Lovely cover
I don't know the original but I love this. Superb vocal performance and lovely arrangement of the accompanying instruments. They are all beautifully played as well, you are a master of that EWI. Lovely stuff!
I too dont know the original, dont need to now this is superb...
Well done, Hook so professional... Alex
i admit that I don't know much of the 10k maniacs...but I like Natalie Merchant even though my knowledge of her music is limited...
I don't know this song...it sounds great though...
I have a 10,000 Maniacs album somewhere (vinyl), the one with My Mother the War on it from yonks ago, but I don't know this one.
Great performance as ever and really enjoyed listening to this.
Don't know the song, so this was like listening to a Hook original for the first time :-)
Really like the gentleness of the 'ha-la-la' part. The uke works so well - thoughtful and pretty. It's a great performance!
Great vocal and I love the Sax winding through the background a very enjoyable listen

What a beautiful arrangement!...it is magnificent, all !...... the voice, the crystalline sound of the Uke, the counter-song of the sax, ...a pure moment of musical happiness, it rinses the ears after listening to a sticky rap accidentally on YT (Well, I don't like the rap...nobody is perfect!)
After a few bars, I was able to recognize this song that was a hit in the early 90s, if I recall. Nice job on a heartfelt slowed down version with interesting backing instruments. By coincidence I was just thinking yesterday when pondering something different to listen to not on my playlists "I haven't listened to 10,000 maniacs in many years, I should pull up some of there stuff again sometime". There was something very unique about Natalie Merchant's voice that I recall I used to like. What ever happened to that group, did they stop like their contemporary REM?
