I decided to write a song about a mother singing to her adult daughter about the sacrifices etc. a good mother makes when raising a child. I needed a female voice obviously so I asked my wife to sing it which she did after a lot of persuasion.
Mother:
When you did n't wanna go to school
Because you did n't wanna do sport
When you did n't wanna look a fool
Play truant and get caught
When you needed help to do what they wanted you to do
Well you must remember me I'm the one you came running to
Daughter:
When I got myself in deep
And everything falling apart
When I cried myself to sleep
Cause some boy had broke my heart
When I screamed and stamped my feet like children often do
Yes I remember you; you're the one I came running to
Mother:
I never once told you about
The many times I went without
The many hits I had to take
The many nights I lay awake
A good team we always were
Always knew just where we stood
But now the roles have been reversed
And the shoe's on the other foot
Here I stand alone and I guess this is something new
I hope you remember me, you're the one I'm running to.
uh...please tell this lady to please please please sing some more and post them on here...we need more ladies voices...and hers is excellent...not just good...
I hear hints of Kate Bush and Karen Carpenter...
another stunningly wonderful song Ray....
yes...please more of this sort of thing...it's wonderful!
Yes.. I agree with Steve 100%.
Gorgeous. We definitely need more ladies around here to sing, and that was beautifully done.
Great song Ray, you write a lovely song, for sure.
Great song and wonderful performance.
A cracker!
Beautifully sung with the perfect lyric another for the pie pod
This is stunning. The songwriting is amazing - emotional and sophisticated, but it's that beautiful warm vocal that elevates it into the stratosphere. I get the Karen Carpenter vibe too, and the song seems to inhabit that classic 70's MOR world. So many fantastic details. Pure class in every way.
Before I even looked at the other comments I was thinking this sounds like the Carpenters. I'm in total agreement - word for word, with what everyone is saying. Very nicely done!
Excellent songwriting Ray and your wife has a pro sounding voice/phrasing!
Farrell

Quality stuff, with great vocals, really enjoyed, great stuff!!
Wow what a stunning voice, this song Ive added to a folder in my phone that I keep my favourite songcrafter tracks.
I listened to it on loop on way to work.
A great concept and your guitar woman tone is beautiful on that short lead.
Music is outstanding.
A great song crafting moment.
But wow that voice.
Excellent.
Wow... just wow. Don't mind telling you I got a big lump in my throat listening to this. As a parent (I guess many of us on the site are), I can feel the love in this tune. Excellently written and I don't think your good lady could have done any better with the vocals. Beautiful job.
Mike
Back for another listen.
Was driving home tonight with this song playing and the sincerity and love in the voice adds to this beautiful song.
I think that as a parent you can relate to this but the subject matter and the way the music is placed with that stunning vocal takes you on an emotional trip.
A truly exquisite song on all levels.
I seem to have missed this one in my regular track listening, apols for that. I'm glad I found it , because like everyone else says, it's a stunner. The lyrics and storyline are superb, they really hit an emotional target without being twee or mawkish. The piano and song arrangement is excellent, but your wife's vocal is the standout here. It's superb! Does she do other forms of singing, because she really seems to know what she is doing. The sound and vocal control is fab, and the harmonies are wonderful. There is a Carpenters vibe here, which is no bad thing.
I can only agree, we need a lot more like this! Well done to both of you, this is a fantastic song.
Crikey I'm late to the party on this one - Stunning!
How lovely that you've done this together :D
Just a fantastic performance! Beautiful singing and playing, great lyrics as well!
the song is really beautiful, and your wife's singing makes it so real and touching !!!
You both made this into a real masterpiece !!! Superlativo!!!
Back for another listen... I just needed to hear this again. As a parent, this really hits hard. Wonderful... brought a tear to my eye. Such a lovely song.
