I stumbled upon this beautiful melancholic melody, which I didn't know...and contrary to what I assumed it was not a Scottish or Irish tune from the 19th century but from the end of the 20th century...by a guy from the Bronx! (Jay Hungar)
I wanted to do an intro with a fiddle but unfortunately, there is no fiddle player on Songcrafter ?? :(
So it's a Whistle Low D and guitar tuning DADGAD version.
I added some Low string and slow string tablecloth and some Glokenspiel sounds
For those who want to deepen their knowledge about this air here is a well documented reference

wow....this is beautiful....and it is resonating my spine and I can feel warmth and comfort flow all over me....wonderful....
This is just beautiful. I had heard the tune before since it is used a lot in the tv series on the American Civil War by Ken Burns. It is so atmospheric and
mournful that, like you, I assumed it was contemporaneous with that awful conflict. Amazed to hear that it was much, much later.
This is a great rendition, and one which I am sure to listen again.

thank you Stephen and Paul

... indeed and what made me want to watch this series
Yes, I didn't know this music either, which made me think of the music (excellent) for the movie Back to Cold montain.
Currently I've taken back my Low Wisthle in D and my tuning guitar DADGAD ...and I think I'm going to make a (musical) trip to Ireland in the next few days. ;)
I admit to not immediately think "Bronx." Beautiful rendering here. I love DADGAD yet rarely tune to it unless butchering some Jimmy Page. I would love to expand my chord knowledge in that tuning. Nice post.

Lovely. Simply lovely. So evocative. Bigtime celtic aura to my ears. Such a wonderful melody.
I liked the DADGAD and the other subtle instrumentation. Beautiful post JP. Time well spent and job well done!
Going back for another listen...
Quite beautiful JP. Your whistle playing is really impressive and very sensitive to the music. A delightful piece, well done!
This is very beautiful JP. The DADGAD tuning and the the Low Whistle work so well together. The tune sounded familiar but I didn't fully recognize it until I read that it was used throughout Ken Burns' Civil War documentary series. Well done!

thank you all guys

yes ... and it's a series that I'm going to watch since it's available in France on the site of the TV channel ARTE
It's a music that would also have been good in Back to Cold Mountain (very nice soundtrack in this movie).
A beautiful melody and you've presented it so well, Jean-Pierre. The flute sound is lovely as is the acoustic guitar. Great job; well done.
Bump for my old Canadian friend Garrick Tyas, fiddle player, with whom I would have liked to play this song. RIP Garrick
Yeah lovely... and a big thumbs up to the production/recording. It's really rich and resonant. Very nice.
