Title: Bachman Turner Overdrive Cover (Sledgehammer)
Post by: StephenM on December 31, 2020, 05:39:17 PM
THIS IS THE NEW VERSION!  It features the "Vale Mens Choir".....lol...not really, its all crazy steve.... this was really fun....  I completely redid all the guitars.... I liked the guitars before but I just wanted to.... and I redid all the vocals and added it to the old ones (at a much lower level, the old ones)..... I added a soprano effect from the vocal tool box on the BR1600... and two new lead guitars...bass and drums are the same...maybe not the drums...I can't remember...anyway I will post the old one below...thanks for your encouragement...and remember my motto...(one of many)...if you can't do it well....do it LOUD!  (recorded and mixed on the BR)
For days I have tried to forget you
And not care where you are
No matter where you are
But fables are not made from memories
I got to try to find
A way to ease my mind
You're like a sledgehammer
Clickin', clickin', on my mind
You're like a sledgehammer baby
You been beating on my mind
You're like a sledgehammer
You been sneakin' all the time, wow
You're like a sledgehammer baby
You been beating on my mind
For nights I have gone without sleeping
I wonder where you are
I wonder where you are
But I must build my castle with daydreams
And watch 'em fade away
Watch 'em fade away
You're like a sledgehammer

Fantastic cover man...your voice works here ....fragile and toasted...great rocking guitars...it feels like it is going off the rails at points, but then pulls back from the brink...I really like this, very cool ...this feels real...great job...that ending guitar is stellar with all the moans and grunts all going down...I am so glad I hit play on this one....I love it.

There's a few parts like around 3:00 where the level ducks a lot. Is that where it's switching?

yes.,...but I am going to work alot on this song.... I really like the orig and the band so I want to do it better because it deserves it....so this is kind of a demo...  I am going to take that out... and the chorus needs work.... it's just too high for me...

Thank you very much for listening Tim, Hilary, Bluesberry, and Warp.... I just always loved this band, especially the stuff that never made it on the radio like Not Fragile, Four Wheel Drive, This One.  These guys remind me of a bunch of lumberjacks, tough and rugged, coming out of the woods to lay down some hard core R and R....  but this needs more work... the problem for me is...when I start tinkering too much I tend to clutter it up.... but I just love the raw rhythm guitar sound here and the bass....
as I was listening and playing this I started to realize it is a very close basic progression to "You"re No Good"

It's already not bad at all,  but of course you can always do better, when you don't feel like moving on to the next one.

That is one crazy ride - I love me a bit of BTO. Fearless performance.

When I was a teen I acquired a Randy Bachman album with his band Iron Horse (1979), I flipping wore the grooves flat on that album, you have got me thinking that I should try some covers from that album.

Cool.

Here is the original version I did...for those that already heard...or to compare...

Happy New Year Everyone!  I always loved this....so can't sing it that good but it rocks....2 rhy guitars (Les Paul) using patch 3 on the BR1600 on one track and something from the ME-25 on the other.... and 1 bass track....no BS.... one lead guitar track through ME and patch 3.... and 2 stereo vocal tracks (if you want to call it that...ha... BTO kicks butt so for New Years Eve this is a banger...
drums i did on the Alesis... I played along with the orig...and at 3:00 )about) you will hear about 2 seconds of the orig..... Heavy Rock....No frills...  got toasted...then recorded this...
