Title: When the Messiah will come , cover Buchanan/ Moore NEW VERSE
Post by: Jean Pierre on October 06, 2020, 09:49:17 AM
A short break between the installation of two sheets of plasterboard to finish the ceiling of my music room (it's boring, but it has to be done!).
played with my telecaster made in Harley Benton "à deux balles" (cheap))

This piece by Roy Buchanam turns on a simple and repetitive cadence Am, G, F, B7, E
as it's in the Am scale, no alteration, so I also did the keyboard part  :) (and the bass part) just BIAB for the drums
I was inspired by Gary Moore's and Roy Buchanan's versions, the last two cadences are improvised.

...the guitar goes into guitar rig 5

You did a great Job , one of my all time favourite guitar tracks , and by two totally different styles , seen Gay Moore live in Manchester a few years ago , incredible Player with such passion and skill , and I believe Ray Buchanan was short listed to play for the Rolling stones at one point, great stuff excellent

Well played. Nice emulation of two guitar legends.

I didn't know this, and indeed I saw in Roy Buchanan's biography on wikipedia that he had been approached (as had many guitarists at the time) to replace Brian Jones.
..he had to refuse and I think he did a good job with his very discreet stage presence wouldn't have fit too well with Mick Jagger's stage exuberance (although I also love MJ's stage exuberance). :)

I modified the MP3 render a bit and I reloaded this new version...trying to add some volume variation effects on the attack of some notes because it was a characteristic of Roy Buchanan's playing...he used to do it  in live with the volume knob of his telecaster,...I can't do it  :(, so I did it on reaper to the mix...

I was commenting on a track that had just finished on the jukebox and this started, I thought that sounds just like Gary Moore.

Incredible, it sounds just like Gary Moore. Tone, style, nuance, the lot.

Very fine indeed.

Tres bien!
(My keyboard does not do accents, though I am trying to improve my French)

Thank you Chapper, Tim and Flash
it's very nice your comment Flash...but very indulgent...Gary Moore's style is still ...inimitable, there's the sound (live) (so the material) and the style he has a way of holding a bend of 1 tone or 1 tone and a half very right, very long and even with a vibrato on the note
and then some high velocity phrases like for example in his incredible live performance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k07j7LcLqw&list=RD7k07j7LcLqw&start_radio=1 around 2mn 55 I tried to play this phrase ...impossible

There is a very good guitarist who unfortunately frequents a little less SC now who is able to do Johnny Robbo ...but it seems to me that he is a pro, in any case very nice and who had asked me some encouraging messages a few years ago

I learnt, as you probably did with the death of Eddy Van Halen who practically invented tapping, a style of playing that I don't know how to do at all...(but Johnny Robbo does it very well...)  ;)

Brilliant JP... it's a great piece of music and you got the tone and feel absolutely perfect. Enjoyed that a  lot. I saw another guitatirst - Pat McManus - play this a couple of years ago at the Rory Gallagher Festival in Ireland, so sad we can't see live music at the moment.
