Title: Carolin No, Brian Wilson cover RETUNED!
Post by: Jean Pierre on May 09, 2018, 03:46:44 AM
CoverYear1966 (banner image missing)

NEW: I redid the nylon guitar part which was really unbearable (I was badly tuned)
ouf it's better

I looked for a song of the year 66 for the festival 66,  and I fell on this one of Brian Wilson (Beach Boys)
I added at the beginning a guitar arrangement for classical guitar
the instrumental bridge is played with the Melodica
if not singing, guitars, tambourine JP
bass, electric piano, ... and choirs by bIAB guys

thanks for your indulgent  listening

A very ambitious cover to undertake, and it sounds great! Nice touch on the melodica, guitar, and tambourine, JP.

Excellent work. I don't know the original song, but this sounds like a beautiful version of it. I like the classical guitar work, and the whole song is very nicely put together. Very well done indeed.

thanks guys;
I'm surprised that many of you do not know this song

it is in the record of Beach Boys "Pet Sounds", 1966 ... certainly one of the greatest record of the decade 60-70

Paul McCartney has had his favorite song with the album, citing "God Only Knows" as his favorite song of all time, and crediting his melodic bass-playing style to the album.  He acknowledged that Pet Sounds was the primary impetus for the Beatles' 1967 album Sgt. Pepper 's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The interplay between the Beatles and the Beach Boys thus inextricably links the two albums together.

There is on Wikipedia a very interesting analysis of this album, I recommend this reading

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet_Sounds (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet_Sounds)

I have to redo the first part in nylon guitar version; I did it by superimposing two melodic lines ... my friend Jean Paul pointed out that my guitar was badly tuned! (and he is right !) I deleted the second melodic line and I have to redo it ... ???

A tough song to cover but you did it! Brian Wilson's Pet Sounds is the cd I pull out and listen to when I'm feeling stale and need a reset.  Nice one!

Merci Farrell

... and I always have to re-record the  intro guitar  that is poorly tuned

for me also, Pet sounds is one of the best record of the 60's

QuoteEric Clapton said, "All of us, Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce and I consider Pet Sounds one of the best pop albums ever made. It covers everything that has ever touched me. Elton John said, "For me, to say that I was captivated would be far below the truth. I had never heard such magical sounds, as well recorded. It has undoubtedly changed the approach I and many others have taken to the registration process. It's a timeless and surprising album, of incredible genius and beauty

QuoteI am also one that does not know the original unfortunately.

if you want to discover Brian Wilson, and especially his album Pet sound, I recommend this live on you tube recorded in London in 2002 or it reproduces the integral of this concept album that inspired so much the beatles before Sgt Peppers

Carolin no is in the part 2 to 17'50 ..............................................................................Good listening all the guys
