This was from the first night with a new drummer, and I just got through an impassioned speech about the importance of dynamics (I think we start to "get it" about 1:45 or so). I think this performance became a bit of an experiment on that front because not a lot is going on harmonically.
This was "Badge" by Cream, but I didn't post the whole tune because the vocals weren't happening during this take. I felt the need to post this outro jam because there was a spontaneous Kaossilator solo. Not that it's anything great, but you have to picture the initial moment of perplexed faces as the other guys couldn't figure out where the phantom keyboard was coming from. Pretty amusing I must say. The Guinness was flowing mightily by then.
If you wish to skip all the noodling, the Kaossilator comes in at about 4:30.
I also wanted to say thanks. Work is crazy stressful right now (this, too, shall pass), and everybody's tunes and comments been a great diversion. I think that's why I've posted several in the last couple days. I've been living here.
As always...peace.

I seriously have fantasized about buying a Kaossilator just so I can see the looks on the faces of my jam buddies when I whip out a keyboard solo out of nowhere.
All the musician friends I have in town are solo-acoustic types, so even having jam buddies is part of the fantasy.
Are you living my fantasy life without consulting me?

That would depend on whether yours involves rotary speaker simulators and leather masks.

Leather masks? No. Never occurred... to... me... Damn, you just planted the idea.
One word about the Kaossilator lead: WOW. How awesome does that sound! I had to listen to this several times. This particular solo has a very Styx-vibe to it. You inspired me to look into buying one of these little boxes, which I probably will very soon. The Flaming Lips, one of my very favorite bands, use these on stage a lot and they look like a ton of fun.
Great job!

Thanks for the compliment.
Kaossilators are fun toy to tinker with, and I've found that although there are only a handful of useful sounds, they have their place, especially since I am no Rick Wakeman. There was a thread a while back where folks were chiming in on the merit of the little units, but I can't seem to locate it right now. It might have been within a song thread.
Peace.

Damn, you can play guitar Blooby. F*cking awesome skill and tones. It just really appeals to my retro-obsessed ears, and always has interesting little hooks and diversions. Some great noodling, and then that otherworldly kaosillator comes in like a prog-rock dream. Very, very cool. By the way - I love 'The Museum of Oddities' as a name / theme - it brings to mind all sorts of creepy overtones and undertones, and the culture of freak / geek shows that I'm very interested in. Sorry I don't get over this way much - it's all I can do to keep up with the BR section at the moment.
keep missing all these great posts in the br1600 section, another great post blooby, this reminds me of something not sure if its spirit/randy california or maybe zappa same era, yeah "little house i used to live in" off "burnt weenie sandwich", guitar at parts has that early zappa tone and freestylee playing, a bit doors as well love it.
had a kaossilator in my hands on saturday £120 squids a steal, if you have a spare £120 at the time i didnt bugger, wasv tempted to put it on plastic but mrs orh would have killed me.
Great listening music Blooby - I enjoyed listening while working!
I like the guitar jam - reminds me of Peter Frampton a bit!
That Kao is pretty cool and adds some psychelic Doors / ELP sounds to the mix.
How the F**K do you do this "Off the cuff!?!?!?!!
Bloody Genius.
Played with a Kao at a shop, but I didn't think it could add this much!
But I think most of the feel of this track comes from the Guitars!
Peace

I can only recall people comparing me to two guitarists regularly: Eric Johnson (never heard it personally) and Frank Zappa. I just bought tickets to Zappa Plays Zappa in Orlando, FL, my third venture with this group as I missed the real thing when Frank was alive. His catalog is so vast that I'm still working my way through it. I would love to do a version of "Peaches en Regalia" here if somebody was up for a collaboration.
Thanks, osckilo, for your kind words. I am so jazzed about serendipity these days. I normally can't stand my own playing, but I hear (some) parts of this improvisation that I truly like. It's certainly not perfect, but I like to hear humans playing off of humans, warts and all. The fact that others can appreciate it is not lost on me.
Thank you.
As always...peace.

I Guessed.......
Your Playing Is Sublime!
Polished to an extreme!
Improvisation becomes a thing of clear structure when you are able to play this well!

I'm gonna get slapped for quoting people so much, but no point in chewing cabbage twice. A very good live performance - the sound quality is amazing. Have tried with friends and even discounting the "eh" playing, it's hard to produce good audio from a session.
I read somewhere you had an edrum kit - Is that what is being used here? There is a chance for me to get one cheap, so I was just curious...
See you around,
Mark
Thank you for all your kind words.
To answer your question, Launched, yes, this is the electronic set (http://www.yamaha.com/drums/drumproductdetail.html?CNTID=546747&CTID= (http://www.yamaha.com/drums/drumproductdetail.html?CNTID=546747&CTID=)). It was worth the investment to me. For instance, a guitarist, bass player, keyboard player, and drummer will come over on Wednesday night. Everything will be set up beforehand. They like it because nobody is lugging gear (except for a guitar and bass), and I like it because I'm not lugging gear, nor am I traveling. On top of that, people literally walk through the door and are ready to play within a minute or two. Everything gets mixed through the BR-1600 (and a submixer for the keyboards and background vocals), and that goes to some monitors. Except for some bleeding on the vocal mics, everything is isolated in its own track.
I started thinking about this setup well over a year ago, and so far (since January), it's been working out pretty well. Mostly, it's been fun to down an ale or three and hang out with some genuinely nice people who also like music.
Once again, thank you all for your support. It means quite a bit.
Peace.

Yes that's it "little house ... " bugged me until I read ORH's comment . And as one that have 70+ of Zappa Albums that's a BIG compliment in my book !! And the kaoss-solo sounds line somthing George Duke could have done had tha kaossilator been around in the 70s.
"Peaches en Regalia" is my absolute favorite Zappa-tune (heard it live with the Grandmothers a month ago!!) but I'm not sure I'm up to playing it ... Would love to try tho' !!! (at least I can have a go at the weird guitaroutro of peaches 3 ;D ) Please give a review of the ZpZ concert (been to one myself : 10/10)
A while back I proposed a ZappaFest (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=2752.msg25107#msg25107), and called dibs on Valley Girl.
Anyone else want to do this when we recover from the NEILFEST (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=3011.0)?

Count me in !!! Dunno what to play yet 'cause everytime I try a Zappa-song that I think "that's easy" .... IT'S NOT ...
maybe "You are What You Is" or Montana
Frank Zappa's just been name-checked in a Jemima's Kite song... coming soon.... ha ha

"Name Checked?" Is that what the kids call a "shout out?"
i'm up for doing vocals for "you can even take your clothes off when you dance" or "brown shoes don't make it"
did someone mention fz gets a shout out in the next jk song. whits a shout out is the same as a name chack.
Very cool jam, Blooby. Very Dead-like. I've never even heard of a Kaossilator before. When it first came in I thought it was a Theremin. Shows how good my ears are. Great performance! Really enjoyed it.
Blooby........
Have I told you recently that you are "Da mutz Nutz!!!!!!!" (London term)
Friday night Listen..........
Love this tune!!!!!!!
Almost...........Too Good.....!
Peace Bro

Just stumbled over here and saw thw word Kaossilator, so had to have a listen! Great jam, you guys certainly cooked and the Kaossilator sounds cool. Don't think I could create anything so disciplined and varied without a fair degree of forethought.
Cheers,
Nigel
This doesn't sound much like Badge to me....
It sounds more like Dreams....
But, What an awesome jam!
I LOVE the Kaossilator solo!!!!!
Super Cool!

Missed this. Thank you for your earlier comments.
You know the bridge in "Badge" where the guitar comes in with the Leslie sound on it? Basically, we stripped it down for the outro, which is why you here us keep repeating the descending C, B, G part. I had to think for a minute, but yeah, it was definitely our outro to "Badge."
We'll try ths again tomorrow night with a new singer. Maybe something will come of it.
Blooby
Be sure to post it !!! I know it will be good !!!
