Title: Garmin-an original, tongue in-cheek, jazzy shuffle
Post by: Glenn Mitchell on May 08, 2009, 12:12:23 AM
Love at first sight.
My (1)wife was only angry, (rhy 008,158,170,212)
(4)for a little while
(1)once she got to know you,
(2)you would make her (5)smile.

I'd be lost without you Garmin
Don't know my up from down
But it's ok, I'm (2)free to play
as (5)long as you're (1)around.

Chorus
Oh (4)Garmin, I(you) took you(me) home
Oh (1)Garmin, so glad you're mine
Oh (4)Garmin, I love to turn you on
Oh (2)Garmin, I love to (5)watch (stop)
your little light (1)shine

We were made to travel
to exotic lands
steamy verdant jungles,
golden desert sands

I'd be lost without you Garmin
Don't know my left from right
You are my glowing (2)little lighthouse
(5)thru the darkest (1)nights.

Chorus

I'll take you, on my motorcycle
I'll take you, in my car
I'll take you, in my private plane
doesn't matter where we are

Without you little Garmin
I would crash and burn.
So talk to me .. help me see
.. which way to turn
Chorus  end

Oh... I love this to bits. Great feel, great playing, great vocals, great lyrical concept... it has the lot. The harmonies reminded me a bit of 'wrapping paper' by Cream, and there's a bit of Clapton generally in the feel of this (to me, anyway). It's just excellent!!!!!!! Gonna have another listen now...

The lighthearted yet meaningfull vox reminds of some early Cat Stevens stuff.  But 100 percent more Bluesy! 8) great job!

Love this track....

Great job.  Your voice sounds so powerful and "live" here.  Super songwriting and playing as well.

Thanks guys. I had fun with this. The Vox was done thru the on board mic using a guitar setting just for a change. I think 'Nashville". Lol
Yes OHR, A Garmin ad was in the back of my mind. I wonder how to reach them?
Yes SdC It would be fun to add Hammond to this. I can add a verse with no vox for a solo?
I also wanted some horn jabs ala Lloyd Jones stuff and may dust off my sax if no one else volunteers.
I'll post this in Collabs for that.
Thanks so much

Cool. A solo would be a bit too much to ask at this stage though; i'll just be happy if I get 3 minutes of groovy backing down.

I don't have a GPS but I love this song! Great fun but still well played and well recorded, and a bit different.

Cheers,

Thanks again guys.
SdC, perhaps you are right about just adding to the existing to pad it a bit.
You've done a great job elsewhere and I'd be honored for you to add to it.

The generous feedback on this forum is easily worth the price of the MBR.
Here is a cleaned up and higher quality version for anyone who wants to collab.
Thanks everyone, a great way to start the week.

This song is complete. At least there's nothing I could add to it. Gave it another try today, but I think it's best for the song if I walk away from it.
