Title: "Bits or stone?" - an original by Bruno
Post by: bruno on January 15, 2017, 09:30:48 AM
Inspired by a recent visit to Pompeii and Herculano ....

Really happy with the tune and lyrics - but it doesn't really suit my vocal range, so am hoping to get Paul to do the vox for this - and will re-post then :-)

Bits or Stone - Music/lyrics by Bruno

Standing in the shadow of a giant
Looking to the night time stars
Carves a silhouette in to the distance
History written, wide and far

The story known, but long forgotten
But faces of the people know
Part of all that stand before it
Dust to dust, stone to stone

It takes your breath, the size, its beauty
Not made of man, not long ago
Life on the edge, its quite a gamble
A loaded die? Who really knows?

So many lives, so many stories
An open book? But how to read?
A frozen second, so full of terror
Encased in stone for all to see

Life was ordered, it seemed quite normal
We lived it well, it was our creed
This was our time, this was our moment
A pyroclastic joke, you see

The switch was flicked, caught unaware
I guess we should have cottoned on
But we lived in the shadow of the giant
And it proved to be way to strong

And here we stand in all our grandeur
Technology defines our world
What have we learned from all this madness
History repeats, it always will

Live life well, we are a moment
We're passing through, don't be alone
And far into the dim and distant
Will our memory be bits or stone?

Brilliant recording Mr.B.
Great lyrics and backing  8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
Nothing wrong with the vocals on this (wish I could sing as well as you do)

Great song and recording, Bruno!

Each tone sounds so mellow! The slap bass is fantastic!

Well sung and the vocal melodies are so catchy!

This reminds me of something, but I just can't put my finger on it. I guess a lot of influences are involved. A keeper for sure. Great groove I love the bass line and fine recording. Vocal are sounding good to me.

Your best one yet Bruno IMO. The bass is fantastic and I really like your vocal. It's interesting, did you write it with Paul singing it in mind because I can hear him singing it too?

I think the vocal works well on this.
You have a delivery that's crystal clear.
The music is outstanding ,what did you use for the bass?
Bravo.

Progtastic Bruno! That bass is a monster...it reminds of the bass sound to Green Eyed Lady, if you're familiar with that song? Your voice is a perfect fit for this and the lyric are a master piece!

while I think the music and vocals are great...this reminds me of a song that Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy would do, as far as the vocal style, albeit a bit more timid than he....but the lyrics are very big....
