I think any of released, recorded, written, or charted is fine. Charts are an easy way to find songs from a particular year but they're hard to find before the 1960s. The following list is a good reference:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Songs_by_year (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Songs_by_year)

It lists songs by "the year in which they were written, or first performed, published, recorded, or released."

I'm looking forward to hearing Speed Demon's cover of "Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built For Two)" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daisy_Bell).

This is really, really tough...   ???

Like John Lennon said: 'Before Elvis there was nothing'!    :D
