Kenny suggested this one & I thought it would be a cool song to cover. As always he did a sterling job on the vocals... cheers Kenny!
All the usual suspects involved in this one:
Drums - Cakewalk Studio Instruments "Slight Beef" kit (with Tiled Room reverb)
Bass - eBay no-name special into a bass preset I created on the Tonelab & a little compression in the mix
Clean & dirty rhythm guitars - tele recorded dry through the Tonelab (Dumble model for Clean; Soldano model for the crunch), double tracked L/R & a little Tiled Room reverb.
Slide guitar - tele through the Soldano setting again with a little slapback delay & Tiled Room added in the mix.
Then I added a little compression & EQ to Kenny's vocal parts & that was it. Finally it got a wash through the LANDR mastering service to add a little more polish & "oomph". I've mentioned this before & if you've never tried it, here's the un-mastered version for comparison:

I wouldn't describe myself as a big Kinks fan, but I really enjoyed doing this one!
Thanks for listening!
Excellent job with this one, Kenny's vocal is awesome and of course the backer is really spot on.
Rock on!
Great work on this Kinks' cover Johnny and Kenny! Excellent on all the vox and I dig the slide work. I gave the un-LANDRED version a listen also and the LANDR master sounds quite a bit better to my ears. Did you have to reduce the volume before you ran it through the LANDR process?

Excellent cover - sounds very professional. Kenny's vocal is great and so is the backing. Brilliant work !

This is a great song. The Kinks are responsible for some classics I think. You guys have done this more than justice. Those vocals are brilliant and the instrumentation is great... lovely guitar sounds.

Great stuff :-) This is an excellent version. So fresh and at the same time adhering to the original. The slide is gorgeous. Mix is spot on. Sounds astounding.

Wonderful post. The production is gob-smackingly good. The LANDR did create a nice, airy mix. Very interesting. Love the tone you chose for the slide and killer vocals.

Ah, now that's wunnerful. :) One of my favorite Kinks songs, and an interesting update to the arrangement. Lots of power in those drums and guitars, and an excellent vocal (and very nice attention to detail on the backing vocals).
Top notch cover, guys!
Probably my favourite Kinks song, tbh.
I was a little unsure when I heard the heavy guitars on the intro, but that soon dispelled. Fine job all round. I like the bass sound - real grit to it - but the guitars are (as usual) bang on. Cracking vocal too, Kenny, and backing vocal, as has been said.
I heard that the "Terry and Julie" was a reference to Terence Stamp and Julie Christie.
:)
Great job with the backer, Johnny!! Kenny's interpretation on vocals is just stunning!
This works, gents!
Excellent collab - I really like the snare sound on this, great playing from you both!

Seems like this particular collab has been turning out some really nice results and this one certainly lives up to expectations. Great to hear the attention and effort that went into planning the arrangement and recording the tracks. The slide guitar (aw, heck... all the guitars) are especially good! Mighty fine job guys!
