Title: Powering BR 800 with USB car charger.
Post by: CaptainJimbo on May 22, 2016, 07:24:26 PM
Hey Gang,
Quick question for you all.
Can you power a BR 800 using a USB car/phone charger?
I can only assume that it is possible, I just wanted to know if it is at all dangerous for the machine.

Any of you guys out there tried it?

I can always use batteries but I thought that it might be an easier workaround for car recording.

Cheers,

Jimbo

Roland's brochures mention the standard BOSS 9V power adapter or 6 AA batteries are required, but the BR-800 manual also shows this:

Quote
  • Power Supply: DC 9V: AC Adaptor, Size AA Dry battery x 6 (alkaline batteries recommended), USB Bus Power
  • Current Draw: 280 mA (DC IN), 480 mA (USB Bus Power)
Alkaline dry cell batteries: Approximately 5.5 hours * May vary according to usage conditions, phantom power used, batteries used, and type of SD card used.

So USB may actually work for powering the unit? Not sure if it just goes into USB audio interface mode when you do this, or whether you can also do a multitrack recording like when connected to a power supply/batteries.

Thanks for the reply man, I was more concerned as to overloading the system or something.
