I've come over all pastoral....
It is, of course, yet another instrumental.
Pastoral, cerebral, celestial, ancestral, temporal, intellectual ...however the description, this is great Paul. I could never put something like this together...I'm impressed!

wOw Paul, This is something else my friend...
What a brilliant piece...
You are one talented musician...

Gets a Wow!! from me too...that was just Fab!!..Crisp and beautifully played...
Wonderful brother, what an excellent composition. Those flute runs are so captivating and the way you segway back into the main theme is stunning...and that end...seriously dude!!
Rock on!
This is fantastic...so fantastic that I won't degrade it with the adolescent one-liner derived from the first sentence in your post.
There is some super nice harmonies that weave in and out. I would never think to use the cymbals in such a manner, but I can't imagine hearing it any other way now.
Super post. I've just downloaded it for the car as I'm heading into town.

Beautiful pastoral piece. Reminded me a bit of some up-tempo Nick Drake with full-on production. Really enjoyed that!
Brilliant, Paul!
This is ear candy! Listened to this via phones and it sounds very good! Fine composition and arrangement! The structure is not easy...you've done very professional job!
Well done Paul, this is shit hot!
And I agree with everyone else.
I'm impressed.
Ian
A truly fabulous piece of work, not only the playing but the choice of instruments and production are superb. Willie
Back for another...
I had a twenty minute ride into town yesterday and listened to it another 3-4 times. Just loving the heck out of this. I have a few specific questions, but I've decided I don't want to know the answers. I'd rather just enjoy it without dissecting it.
Just awesome.
Blooby
Lets just say that there was a bit of cutting and pasting going on here....
Back again. Just love this.
Blooby
Masterful once again Paul..
Soo Inventive and cool man
Nick
What are you doing to us?
This is fantastic, you have a fabulous ear and you are so creative. Masterful is the only way to describe it.
Paul , your technical skills are out of this world! Between you and Johnny... wow! Imagine that collaboration!
Really enjoyed what you did here, quality piece.
I missed this one. Glad it came back up because i just loved it!
The overall vibe is just beautiful...the flute tones and all the other great instrumentation adds up to an overall composition that is bright, uplifting but yet very tranquil and relaxing. That's tuff to do!
Excellent song man. Bravo!!
Impressive to say the least, just great musical craftsmanship!

Great Tune. Haven't been here in a while and what a first song to listen to. How about a breakdown on how it was recorded, what instruments used and such? What was direct recorded and was there any mics used? Was wondering if the acoustic was direct or using a mic. Were the other instruments keybpard patches?
Really nice. Thanks for posting this.
This is beautiful, mate. It's got a real "prog rock" feel to it - a bit like Camel in their softer moments. A gorgeous melody, orchestrated superbly. Bravo!

Thanks for the kind comments everybody.
This was recorded into Presonus Studio One 3 Professional via an Audiobox 1818VSL interface.
The guitar used was a fairly cheap Yamaha APX6N electro classical which was both DIed and miced using a Rode NT2a condensor mic. All other parts (including the fast arpeggio guitar parts - mainly the bits in unison with the "double bass" and "flute") were played on a Yamaha Motif XS7 workstation synth and recorded initially into the XS7 midi recorder and then recorded one track at a time into Studio One. It was mixed using only stock Presonus plugins.
As I think Blooby spotted - the first unison line was played but heavily quantised and (spoiler alert!) copied onto other XS7 midi tracks and altered a bit to keep the tight timing whilst changing the notes played. The wonders of midi!
I think the cymbals were from Impact which is the Studio One percussion synth.
As a fairly recent convert to PC recording in general and Studio One in particular, I haven't yet explored the mastering functions yet so the piece is effectively just the unmastered mix.
Paul
OTD Bump,
Can't believe this was a year ago.
Alex
Nice! Would sound great with folksy vocals, but stands VERY well on its own too.
It's a shame that only a few people ever get to hear all the treasures buried on sites like this.

That's the beauty of the OTD bump :) I'm enjoying this one all over again! Cheers Alex!
