hey I just got a new br 80 and I have been trying to use the br series wave converter to import wave files into the recorder. in order for the software to recognize the wav files on my computer do I need to set up a ROLAND folder in some special format and hierarchy? how do I see the wav files in the wav file converter software?...I saved songs using the br900cd and br800 and would like to import those songs into the br 80 too. thanks for your help with this ???
you cant import a song folder from micro br to br80, i imagine that applies to the br900 too, but am not certain of that.
to transfer your wav files. you have to export the individual wavs/tracks from the microbr sd card using br wav convertor and save to your pc/laptop. i would create a separate folder for each song.
then with the sd card from your br80 create a new song. then using the wav editor import the saved wavs/tracks to the new song folder, on the br80's sd card

No, you don't need to set up a special format or hierarchy. The WAV files can exist in any folder on your computer and on any drive.

1) First, make sure the BR-80's USB is in STORAGE mode by following the steps on page 3 of the Roland Workshop booklet "Using the BR-80 as an Audio Interface" (http://cms.rolandus.com/assets/media/pdf/BR80WS05.pdf). Then, connect a USB cable between your computer and the BR-80. If the BR-80 is in STORAGE mode, you should see a drive icon on your computer's desktop with the label "BR-80 EBAND".
2) Start the BR Wave Converter software. It is important that you don't start this program until the BR-80 is connected in STORAGE mode and the "BR-80 EBAND" drive icon appears on your desktop. Otherwise, the BR-80 won't show up in the Drive list of BR Wave Converter.
3) Click the Drive drop-down list of BR Wave Converter and select the BR-80 EBAND drive.

6) In the track grid, select an empty (white) track or track pair (if stereo) as the destination of your WAV file. The box representing the selected track(s) will turn red. You can only import one WAV file at a time, so you can't select more than one track or track pair simultaneously.
7) Click the GO button at the lower left of BR Wave Converter. A standard file open dialog window will appear in which you can select the drive, folder, and filename of the WAV file you wish to import. When you click the Open button in the file open dialog, the import process will begin.
Note that the BR Wave Converter can only import WAV or AIFF files that are 44.1 kHz, 16-bit PCM.
This was very helpful and got me a little more fluid using the device.
Some observations and ???? so far.
1. The COSM guitar effects are better than what I hoped for however the voice effects seem limited.
2. I have been laying down simple voice and guitar tracks in LIVE. I set up the SONG name in MTR then import the LIVE track into track 1 of the MTR song and go from there. I use the metronome in LIVE to set the BPM. When I get to MTR it does appear to sync even though I'm using the same BPM?.....seems like the BPM's should sync up?
3. On the BR900 and BR1200 I was able to bounce my drums to 7/8 in real time inserting intro, verse, fill etc while the song was playing. I had a BR800 where this was not possible and it does not appear possible on the BR 80? Is this correct.
4. In MTR mode does plugging my guitar into the input deactivate the mics? How to I record voice and guitar to tracks 1 and 2 separately and simultaneously in MTR mode?

You can't do that on the BR-80. There's no SIMUL mode, so you can only record from one input at a time.
Actually, there is a way you could do it but it's not very practical. If you used an external mixer that has a high impedance guitar input, you could plug your guitar and a microphone into separate mixer channels and pan one channel full left and the other full right. Then record the output of the mixer through the BR-80's Line input to a stereo pair of tracks. The mixer's left channel will be recorded to the odd-numbered track and the right channel will be recorded to the even-numbered track. Unfortunately, there is no control of input level for the BR-80's Line input and you can't use any of the BR-80's effects on the Line input. So unless you're not interested in using the BR-80's effects, this really isn't a practical way to record guitar and vocals simultaneously.
I've never used a BR-80, so I can't answer your other questions without guessing. Maybe one of the BR-80 users here will answer them.
Thats Brilliant 64! Now I need a small, battery powerd , 2 channel mixer. No bigger than an effect pedal but hopefully smaller ??? ;D

The vocal effects aren't that bad, but the presets have FAR too much compression on them. Try tweaking them a bit, reducing the amount of compression, or changing them to limiters with a 90+ threshold.

It should. I've never done it that way. I've always stayed in the MTR mode for the whole song. If you're setting out to add more tracks I recommend starting in MTR mode.

I've never tried this, but I believe you're right. You have to set ut the whole drum-track, and can't change it while bouncing.

No. It doesn't have a high-impedance input for guitar. Also, it's not battery-operated. It requires a power supply plugged into an AC outlet.

When I get a chance, I'll have a look on the web to see if there are any small, battery-powered mixers with a guitar input. That might be a tall order. There are probably a few small mixers with guitar inputs but I'm not sure if any of them will be battery-powered.
I had a look but I can't find a battery-powered mixer with a guitar input. There are mixers with guitar inputs such as the Alesis Multimix 4 (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MultiMix4FX) but they don't run on batteries. And there are battery-operated mixers such as the Behringer Xenyx 1002B (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/1002B) but they don't have guitar inputs. :(
