Well, I took the plunge, I have been thinking about it a while, I went and ordered a BR-1200CD. Damn it feels good. I love my MicroBR to death, it has brought so much richness into my life. I started writing songs because of it, my guitar playing went up 1000% because of it, my singing went up 100% because of it, I found this forum and all you great folks because of it. It is essential. But I find my original songs becoming more complex, and i want to get more complex, there is stuff in my head just bursting to get out, I find going past about 8 tracks gets kinda tricky and time consuming on the MBR. I like the idea of laying down 8 or 10 or 12 tracks and mixing them at the same time. Plus the drum and bass generator, how cool is that. I am probably only ever going to be making these songs by myself so I don't need more than 2 inputs. I was leaning towards the 900, but man the 1200 looks so cool. I like the 40G hard drive also. I look forward to making some music on it and posting. I still need the MBR and will use it lots, but it sure will be fun to have the big bad brother for my epic songs that I am thinking about (old Prog heads never die). (Thanks Kody for the advice).
OH, BB, This is AWESOME! I'm so happy for you! Dude, I'm estatic~ I can't wait to hear what you come up with~ I think you'll LOVE it! Makes me want to upgrade!! I really don't need to, but man I'm excited for you...
It should be pretty similar to the br900, so if you need any help or anything~ I'll be here for you~
I think you can pick up an official Roland dvd guide on ebay~ I got one for the br900.....The only thing is, they're like $30!! You might not need it with this website, and your experience with the MBR...and the manual... God, this is great BB!
Wow BB, can't wait to hear your posts, they'll be great for sure!!!
I have an old Korg D16 myself, but it's ... well old .. no easy interface to the computer .. a harddisk that's noe exactly quiet. Still great for the times I wanna try bigger things ...

So has it come yet??? Should be there soon right?? I Can't wait till you get it!!
Not yet Kody, I am getting pumped just thinking about all those extra tracks. My last song (River of Time) was insane for all the bouncing, I bounced like 8 times and kept going back to re-adjust levels. It worked out pretty good sound wise, you can do wonders with just the MBR but it becomes kinda time consuming if you go past 8 tracks. I'll let you know when it comes in.
One thing I really like about the BR-1200 is the 3 rotary VALUE controls just below the display. These can be used to adjust effect parameters directly. I wish all BRs had this feature. Although, I'd prefer that there was a rotary control over each track fader for panning, EQ, etc. and that these same controls could be used for effect parameters as well.
Another nice feature of the BR-1200 is that it includes COSM models of popular overdrive/distortion pedals such as the fuzzface, Big Muff Pi, Proco RAT, Ibanez Tube Screamer, Marshall Gov'nor, and several others. I can't believe that Boss never thought of including these in the other BR models. I mean, really, the overdrive/distortion pedal is the single most popular effect pedal in the history of the electric guitar! ("Not 'round here sir. We don't get much call for it" says Mr. Wensleydale of Boss R&D). ;D But seriously, you'd think there'd be at least a couple of overdrive/distortion pedal models in every BR. It's the cheddar of FX pedals.
There are also a few other effects that aren't available in most of the other BRs (except the BR-1600), such as Uni-Vibe, and Pickup Simulator (makes humbucker sound like single-coil and vice-versa). Plus, there are lots of effects in the BR-1200 that aren't in the Micro BR. See the following effects comparison chart.
BR Insert Effect Comparison.pdf (https://songcrafters.org/64guitars/Docs/BR%20Insert%20Effect%20Comparison.pdf)
The BR-1200 has 42 insert effects versus the Micro BR's 11.
I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with your new BR-1200.
I saw one of these the first time few days ago. It looks so cool, I love to see all the buttons and sliders. The size is quite impressive too.
Can't wait to hear the stuff you record on it.

I heard the conversation went more along these lines:
Mr Wensleydale:
Hey Financial Controller, I just had a great idea.Mr Controller:
Waaasat ?Mr Wensleydale:
Why don't we put the COSM chip in all of out BRs. It is only a chip. Chips are small. We can fit in it right next to ultrasexyfactor chip in the micro BR.Mr Controller:
... and kill the sales of every other product we try to convince those people out there they need ? Next time I want your opinion I'll give it to you.
Well the BR-1200cd came in yesterday. I am overwhelmed right about now. I am sure glad I had the MBR for a while (and even became pretty darn good on it), because without that I would have been totally snowed under by the complexity of this thing. I even took the day off work today to stay home and read the manual and play with it a bit. I will need some help from you Kody for sure as I get into this a little bit. What do I need to record my vocals (what is a good mic) shure57? I am a total beginner when it comes to all this stuff, other than the MBR my recording experience is zero. I want to use the MBR as a recording device for vocals and acoustic guitar for a while, using my great new roland mic with the MBR and then transferring over to the BR-1200 with the MBR headphone out/1200 line-in, will this work (should, why not)? I can see myself using both quite a bit. Another thought I had is using the MBR into the line ins and bouncing what is on the BR-1200 along with what coming over from the MBR, and bouncing all this together (this will increase my number of tracks to 16). An example is to record acoustic guitar and vocals onto the 4 tracks of MBR (two stereo pairs) and put all other instruments (incl drums and bass from the BR-1200) on the BR-1200, bounce the whole lot for final mixdown, would this work? Lots of reading to do. Oh yea, the hard drive has been upgraded to 80G, how great is that.
Alright BB!!
QuoteWhat do I need to record my vocals (what is a good mic) shure57?
I've never personally used a 57 for recording vocals. I'm sure it's been done before~ I've tried my dad's beta58, and dude, I liked my cheaper condenser better.....remember, you have full on Phantom Power now!! MicroBrew and I have the MXL 990 large diaphram condenser....very reasonably priced for the quality of the mic. You could spend a little more and have a very quality mic~ I'm impressed with my MXL!! I really think you should look at some condensers.......

Sure will...That's exactly how I'd do it... Unless you want to get the PC involved....You can IMPORT WAV files to the 1200 via USB...I think you'd have to convert the MBRs tracks to wav, etc...It would probably take just as long or longer than recording the track onto the 1200!
Yes, w/ the br900~ you can bounce and record an input at the same time, I'd sure think the 1200 would be capable...
I'm really happy for you man!~~ Good luck!
I just woke up, and I can barely see(or think :P lol) I 'll come back later and see if I missed anything!! I'm sure there's a lot more I could help you with....
I'm glad your getting into your '1200 8)
I found that I can do more things a lot easier on the '600 cos of my experience with the MBR as well.............
HI guys!
Well, I am trying to record a little jam, first time on the BR-1200. What a difference from the BR-864!
I wanted to do what I call a manuel double. I wanted to copy a track to another track, except I want it to be positioned timing wise just a slight bit behind the original track. I used to do this a lot with my BR-864. Then I would balance one track right, the other left. This gives me total volume control on both tracks.
Here's my question:
*How can I do this with the BR-1200?
I see how to copy a track, or move a track...BUT I don't have the option to just slightly delay the second track....I only see how to move it a full step.

That's because the display where you enter the "Start", "End", and "To" positions defaults to MEAS (measures). Press [F1] (DISP) to change the display to TIME so that you can specify a "To" time that's just slightly different from the "Start" time.
Right on!
Thanks!
Hello everybody!
I think I'm soon a new BR-1200 user. I have owned my Micro BR over a year and it is very good. I even recorded two songs, but haven't posted them, perhaps I wait that new gadget. A couple weeks ago got 'the fever' to get more tracks. I have considered betveen different models and the final conclusion was BR-1200. I and a few friends will make a common order from Thomann next week.
I read one Finnish review about it and that engouraged me to choose BR-1200. And I have read your comments about it and I think you are pleased about it...?
Micro Br gave me the basic practice and I'll still use it beacuse of its portability in my cottage. I use it the store of inspiration in the future.
By the way...do you use the burner? In Micro BR, it was easy to transfer my song to computer. Somehow it feels unnecessary, because I think almost everyone has a burner in his computer..?
So, You'll be informed when it is here!
-Redler
Edit: How do you compare the drums or rhythm programming betveen BR-1200 and Micro BR? At first the programming on Micro BR was a bit complicated...
I am more than pleased with it, I love it Redler. It is wonderful. I still use my microBR a lot for simpler songs, but for complex productions, it is the 1200 all the way. It is a really great home recording studio, it does it all really well.
The 1200 drums are 1000x better than the microBR drums, and so much easier to program. I really like the the programable bass also.

so jealous-gas attack gas attack
A few hours ago the postman brought a heavy package different music staff to me and my friends. Yes, it included that BR-1200CD studio!
And now...studying the basics. The manual is quite heavy with 362 pages. So, let's start. I'll be here ask questions sooner or later, i suppose:-)
edit: There's great built in effects for guitar and bass. I made already two minutes test song and those slide switch are really handy to balance each track.
I purchased also a new condenser mic and I noticed better stay away from wall clock...
Let's continue....
RDL - Welcome to the BR1200 Club. Just listen to PDG & BB to see what this baby is capable of. 8-))
Way too expensive for me ... guess I will stick to importing my tracks to Audition.......
Congrats Redler !!! Looking forward to much good music from you now !!!!
Welcome to the club Redler, the 1200 is really something, I love mine, three songs done and am working on my 4th since getting mine, and I love it more and more. It is a full studio in a box for sure, nothing else is needed except for a guitar, singing voice and inspiration. Of course I still use my microBR a lot also. Lets have some of your music in this little BR-1200 section to keep Pinedog and myself company!!!
Back already BB?
Thanks guys!
I agree with BB; it s a really versatile box. So many features more than in Micro BR, how to learn to use them. I haven't focused properly in certain functions, just browsed the manual and learning the basic recording. There seems to be plentiful mastering tool kit.
Today, I'll start to record my first song with it. I think I'll get to know vocal pitch and harmonies later in the future. The first one will be mostly acoustic song.
My friend, who is a drummer, became inspired about BR-1200. We planned record a couple songs in his garage soon. Has anybody of you recorded 'real' drums by it? He does own dynamic mics and a mixer, so I think recording isn't any problem...
See you later!

Sorry Steve, brain fart there, of course there is the three of us on here and we need to suport each other with out BR-1200s. I can't believe I forgot you Steve, one too many red ales last night (That is my excuse). And Redler will make 4 with the good machine.
The first song has been recorded, mastered and it is already on the CD. It was more rehearsal.
On same time with BR-1200 I purchased a condenser mic and I'm not pleased with the final result of my guitar sound. I have no idea how an acoustic guitar should record. How far or close to the guitar and in which position? The sound was 'thin'. After all, I feel that at least the input volume was too low.
This is my mic:

In which position slide switch should be in singing/playing?
I like record songs that way: I sing and play guitar on same time, singing is more easy then. Now it came to my mind that next song I'll play in one track and sing on another one, because it is possible record two tracks on same time...
