I know - I know, how can anyone cover this song?

It's pure brilliance, complexity and soaring and ostentatious theme just cannot be recaptured.
I had to do something though, it's been nagging me for quite a while. So I sat down last night with an empty head, empty heart and a bottle of scotch and just went for it.
I'm not asking for you to like my clumsy, ham-fisted and bucolic attempt, just please, go gently on me. Here is my homage to what has become a Songcrafter's all time classic.
FMGWABP
It just had to be done !!!
It's brilliant. Captures the essence of the original, but still adds a flashy flavor to it !!!

You're just being kind Geir, but I do appreciate it.
Spot on Flash, this is now my favourite Tribute cover as it is so true to the original.
Has it really taken over five years for somebody on here to work out the complexities of this song and have the balls to actually cover it??
Genius, fine production too!
Fabulous, did you do this in Reaper, what did you use to master it? the mix is perfect, more info needed, on instruments and equipment used and mic set up etc.
It`s better than nothing
You know you just make this your own song. Enter it in song contests and get it on the billboards.
I looked up the copyright for this and surprisingly found nothing
::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
This song is sooo goood that i noticed that the latest song jukebox plays it continuously on loop that it won`t skip to the next song. ;D
The production is stellar and your musicianship and talent really shines. So true to the original, yet you have managed to make it your own. Brilliant....
Loved this from the first note!! Very pieceful and relaxing Excellent!!
I am hearing a slight dip across all frequencies but an otherwise brilliant post.
Blooby
ORH has spotted it - it's true, all instrumentation and tracking is virtual.
Blooby, I bow before your discerning ear, there is a substantial amount of cut across all frequencies.
I think I also hear extensive use of black noise in those synth sounds

It's dark noise, but close.
Here's the Wikipedia definition of Dark Noise:
Dark Noise is noise that is undetectable by its emitted radiation, but whose presence can be inferred from gravitational effects. It is subdivided into different types of dark noise:
Dark dark Noise
Not quite so dark, dark noise
Quite light, dark noise
Light dark noise.
It wasn't discovered until the 1980's when by chance a broadcast engineer who was setting up a boom mic for a particularly boring politician's interview, noticed that if the mic wasn't pointing directly at the source of sound, there was a background noise which was inaudible from everywhere else.
The engineer now breeds dutch lop eared rabbits.
;D
Avant garde for Songcrafters.
I didn't see (or hear) this coming.
I just had to come back for more, I'll listen to this all night.

For once I have to disagree most strongly. The original had a freshness about it: the preserved freshness of tinned pineapple. This feels more like a contrived pastiche, and too timid to take any risks or bring something new to the party.
I think it's because you're a 'proper' musician, Mike. Your technical skills do you no favours here: you would have been better served with an untrained, primitive approach to capture the earthy Autumnal tonal palette of the original.
Just my two pence worth.
Still a great listen though. And you know I respect you as a man, friend and musician, so I hope you take my critique in the spirit it was meant.
I nearly missed this brilliant cover of a brilliant song. With earphones on I could play it loud enough without disturbing anyone...
a keeper for sure
daniel
