I did the backer on the auto rhythm on Garageband and added a fleckle of harmony. I've done my own thing (surprise!) with the chords and added a tiny bit after the chorus.
Version 2 - without harmony - cheers Paul :D
Billy Don't Be A Hero
written by Mitch Murray and Peter Callander, performed by Hilary
I will be honest Hilary - I wasn't expecting to like this, not being a huge admirer of Paper Lace. But I love the arrangement and the melancholy, but not maudling, tone of your voice. You have really transformed it so hats off to you.
The harmony might need a little bit of work in places but notwithstanding I really enjoyed listening to this.

I was just thinking about that - it was a bold choice with a clash - maybe a rethink . . .
Not seeing any controls to press to play???

Should be working now :D
I really like it when a cover is taken, and then you put your own stamp on it. Excellent cover Hillary, and nice use of the technology as well. Sounds great.

Been trying to think of War songs but this one never crossed my mind - good call Hilary.
Without the cheese of the original this now comes across as a serious song - great version!
Pete
I think that's a stunner now.
Paul
This works much better transposed into a minor key. Way better than the sappy, poppy original that I remember well from childhood. And it's beautifully sung. Excellent work!
For all your strengths in your Comedy work, I think that your talent shine equally as brightly when producing "straight" songs, whether they be originals or covers, and your vocal here just proves this point further....its stunning!
Nice use of the GB auto rhythm too, been known to dip into that myself from time to time.
I know the song too, but had not ever listened to it too closely to decifer what the true subject matter was, so this is very cool addition to this Fest.
wow this takes me back, great version.
Hilary you got style and class
but ------------
I vwas going around all day singing that bloomin' song
that song really brings back memories from the old days for me
love it Hilary ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
"Billy dont be a hero...............................aghhhhh
where did I leave that fork and knife.
Tommy
Great cover Hilary, I really enjoyed it considering I didn't like the original..lol well done...Alex
You certainly made this one your own. I see you have replaced the original with a version without harmonies but I liked how you did this. I heard someone else do this song last weekend and I thought "What a good song".
After seeing Greeny's comment

He's spot on. It was sort of OK until the last verse when they went all sentimental which really is not how the song should be. Your version was just right and I think leaving out the last chorus (whistled or sung) is an excellent touch.
That was excellent Hilary. Really great performance
Blimey that was a trip down memory lane... I used to love that when I was a kid. You did a great Job Hillary and revamped it totally.
Really nice and beautiful interpretation, Hilary! You've done very unique job on this. Excellent!
Nice twist on this from the original, taking away all that pop sound and adding what you have gives you a chance to listen to the lyrics and take the message of the song in.
Nice one.
