Title: "Jodie" - Original by Ted
Post by: Ted on February 24, 2014, 10:55:24 AM
Jodie
© 2010  Ted Johnson
I did everything.

Guitar, Bass, and Vocals recorded on Micro BR
Guitar Wah effect produced in Audacity
Drums, Keyboards, Mixing and Mastering on Garage Band for OSX

I'm not holding out for Jodie anymore.
That was never going to happen anyway as we both know.
A couple years ago I heard an interview.
She said something really stupid; made me glad to be with you.
I'll only see her movies now if they get good reviews.
I'm not holding out for Jodie anymore.

God came in between me and Colleen.
That was her contention, though I didn't see a thing.
I cringe now when I think back about all the years I clung.
I should have cut my losses when she aimed to be a nun.
In retrospect I really think that was my cue to run.
Yeah, God came in between me and Colleen.

I ain't got a crush on Erin anymore.
I went shopping with her husband in a big department store.
She'd taken up collecting Snowbabies figurines.
I looked at my buddy thinking, "Better him than me."
Then I looked in my heart at where that old flame used to be.
I ain't got a crush on Erin anymore.

I've got to level with you about Jane.
'Cause she ripped me to pieces like no one can again.
The last time that I saw her it was like a battlefield
With an historic marker, but the battle seemed unreal.
Sittin' in a Starbuck's wond'rin what was the big deal.
So now I've leveled with you about Jane.

I'm not holding out for Jodie anymore.
That was never going to happen anyway as we both know.
A couple years ago I heard an interview.
She said something really stupid; made me glad to be with you.
And the fact that she's not into guys has got nothing to do with
Me not holding out for Jodie anymore.

This is a reworking of this song (https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?topic=6520.0) (which I was honored to have covered by Geir (https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?topic=15271.0)).

I'm hoping that The Nutrients can do it like this. It's faster than before and has a keyboard part rather than two guitars.

After working out several songs in Garage Band, I finally discovered all of the guitar and effects modeling. It kind of blew my mind that I'd not found that trove before. I dare say, I may prefer this library to the guitar effects on the MBR.

magic - it's cracking. I'm grinning widely.

Disappointed about Jodie though - do you think she'd let me watch?

Sh*t, Ted. This is superb and hilarious in equal measures!! (Do we know the SAME people??)
Brilliant playing and production, slightly overshadowed by the rib-tickling lyric. Wish this was on my local juke box. well done.  8)

Great version of a fabulous song. I must admit I have only heard Geirs cover before, now I have listened to all three. I love them all.

1st time I've heard a version of this and I must say it's very clever.
The lyrics are fantastic and the song is put together very well.
Nice one ted.

Clever lyric. I like the bass and keys playing together and giving this song a nice "oldies" feel but the great sounding guitars that make it modern as ever. The vocal delivery is good, I like the tone of your voice. But for me, that lyric is the tops.

This is a great song - which I inexplicably missed previously. Brill lyrics.

I will wait until hell freezes over for Jenny Agutter - and I suspect that won't be long enough.  The restraining order is still in force.

I shared a little story about Colleen (verse 2) in the comments of his cover of "Singapore" for the Tom Waits fest. (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=34774.0) I wasn't really angling for a bump. (Or was I?) But I'll take it. Thanks, Trev!
