...or, Love In A Trash Can ;)
After receiving my first notice from the henwrench collection agency, I'm finally
letting getting this one out...
I hadn't even heard of this song before henwrench sent me a message saying we should cover it. After I checked out the video, I had to agree! There was an Unplugged2 fest going on around this time, so that may be why I chose all acoustic instruments for the backing before sending it back to henwrench for his excellent bass and backing vocals.
I really wanted to get this out much earlier, but work got in the way again >:( and I couldn't find much time to finish the vocals and final mixing until now.
Thanks for listening,
cuthbert
Quick!
written by Stephin Merritt/Magnetic Fields
as performed by cuthbert & henwrench
instruments used:
henwrench: bass
cuthbert: dueling ukuleles
5-string Appalachian dulcimer
5-string acoustic guitar
lotsa guitars & ukes scratching out a rhythm track
kick drum (quick!) programmed in Hydrogen
Recorded on BOSS Micro BR recorders, and final mixed & mastered with Audition CS6
Fabulous! I love that rhythm track. Very imaginative. Great vocals too. And a cool song. I didn't think I'd heard it before but I checked out the video on YouTube and it looked familiar. Maybe henny or someone else here posted it before; perhaps in the "What are you listening to right now?" topic. Anyway, great work guys. I love this.
Great cover. Love the vocal harmonies.

Kari
ps. Had to search the Appalachian dulcimer on google...never heard that before :)
Nice one, cuth!! You did a great job on the lead vocals. I did a take but it's one of those rare songs that just cannot be sung 'english'. It has to be a yankee. ;D cuthbert did all the hard work, I just warbled some b/v's and bass.

THIS IS JUST TOO GOOD!! i love it! wow.
Superb, sounds professional in every aspect, great song, don't know the original but really enjoyed this version.
Really great recording. You guys have outdone yer'selves on this one...a wonderful loopy feel to it. Whatta collab.
Stunning rendition of this song, that "scratching" rhythm sounds fantastic with those ukes and acoustic layering over the top, and its all backed up by brilliant Henwrench bass and "that tone".
Lead vocal is seriously good Cuth, and the way both your vocals combined for the harmonies just made it even more special. Don't think I have heard two Songcrafters vocals combine so well together for a long time
In terms of production....this is as good as it gets
Ah! yes! It's off the planet!
I'm not familiar with this, and it's briliant that this for me is the original version.
Love everything about this - the bass tone is fab, love to hear a bit of fret.
Marvellous!
have had this looping on ma piepod, totallytoptastic.
Oh yeah, this is the business. Don't know the original but it would have to be bloody good to compare to this. Great listen...........Willie
