Title: Girls - Beastie Boys unplugged
Post by: ODH on December 10, 2012, 09:19:42 AM
My first submission for the unpluggedfest.
Big fan of the Beasties ever since the first album. This is the song the preceded Fight for your Right (to Party) on the first album. Back when they were public enemy number one, rather than ambassadors for all that is (actually) right and good.
And it's quite a sweet song, I think. A little tongue in cheek.

In my small way, a tribute to Adam Yauch

Thanks for posting this one. A very good choice for this festival, and you sing and play so cleverly, a big well done

Thanks for the kind words everyone, much appreciated.
This was a real spur of the moment recording. I had an hour's window open up last Thursday after work and before going out for an Xmas dinner. I was off on Monday for Xmas shopping, I re-did the main vocal and added the tamborine part then posted. I held off on the human beat-boxing.
Always wanted to do a Beasties song, never thought it would be this one. I'd like to do High Plains Drifter or Car Thief from Paul's Boutique. Or something.

Oh yeah that would be SWEET! Paul's Boutique is definitely one of my favorite all-time albums... completely changed the game with sampling, etc.

I got this cassette back when the album first came out and I have no idea why. I didn't particularly like it. And now when I hear the album, which is rarely, I really enjoy it. And this cover was great. The hint of attitude in the vox is cool and the arrangement works.

Gratuitous decade bump
Ten years ago we were five months away from our daughter being born (she'll be ten in May) and the extension on the house was just finished. Seems like yesterday.
