Title: Midnight at The Oasis - LeAnn, Jessica and friends
Post by: Speed Demon on May 21, 2012, 02:45:42 PM
An old friend of mine, and his band.

I recorded an entire rehearsal and selected four tunes to be used on a demo disk.
This is one of them.

So far, I've not been able to get them onto this site but I'll keep trying. They are quite good.

What is interesting about my friend Tony is that he lost a finger on his left hand, a result of an industrial injury. That didn't stop him from playing his guitars. You cannot tell, purely by listening, that he has such a handicap. The worst nightmare come true, for a guitarist.

I asked him if I could post some of his band's music and he was thrilled with the idea.

Enjoy.

Classic cover of a classic song. I think it was the late great Minnie Ripperton who did the original but this is damn good. More please...............Willie

The first version of this song that I remember hearing was sung by Maria Muldaur. Another fine vocalist.

I instantly fell in love with the guitarist that backed her up. I never learned his name but that guy had the tastiest licks anyone can imagine. Worth locating that version and adding it to your collection.

Agree with Flash, it's the bassist that sells this song to me.
Heard it loads, but Dr Bass adds something a bit special.

Good recording too. Was this a couple of microphones in the room, or a mixing desk job?

As for the guitar demon losing a finger ... I lost my car keys last week & found that awkward (someone had hidden them in my pocket). Using that train of thought, I'd have to mislay a whole hand before I'd get any better. ;)
Still ... doesn't seem to have done him or Tony Iommi any harm.!!

Thanks for listening, Great Finny One.

I recorded this, and thirteen other songs, using seven mics going into a BR1600CD.
Two for the vocalists, two for the guitar and bass amps and three for the drums.
I used a direct line in for the keyboard/synth.

I did the editing and mixing using Audition.
The plugins used on the vocal tracks were a vocal enhancer and stereo field.
The band wanted the vocals to be very clean so I didn't add any unusual effects to them.
