Title: Gretsch
Post by: pigeondargile on May 01, 2012, 10:46:17 AM
Hey, new to the forum and to guitar playing but wanted to ask a question. I'm looking at getting one of the Gretsch pro jets

http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/guitar/electric/gretsch-g5435t-pro-jet-with-bigsby

I have tried one out and like both the sound (as much as I am able to judge due to inexperience - sort of brighter than the Les Paul but not as jangly as the fender) and feel

Anyone tried one out? Have an opinion?

My major concern is that there were reports a year or so back about problems with intonation on the A string and wonder how serious this might be, and how common intonation issues are across different guitars

Anyway, any advice or thoughts welcome, even alternatives to try out

Thanks
Stephen

Hi and welcome. I am just going out to play but somebody will be with you shortly. Intonation?, big problem on some guitars but most are ok... It's a big subject and one that crops up on here often

Here is one to get you going  https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?topic=14722.0 This is the guitar you don't want as far as intonation goes.

Hiya Steve.
Beat me to it! As I know nothing about Gretsch guitars, and pretty sure that I've never played one - I'll leave it to the other chaps on this site - I'm sure someone has an opinion. I'll get you recording and posting next  ;)

Are you going for a semi-hollow or a solid body?  If intonation is and issue, maybe consider a Schecter Ultra III instead.
