Hi!
I'm thinking about buying the Boss Micro BR...
Can anyone tell me what effects are included in it?
What I would need most is an octave type of effect, so that I can record bass tracks with my guitar. Is there such a thing in there?

Unfortunately there isn't a Octave type effect. But it is still possible to create something like that using the existing parameters.
The Micro BR has the following guitar effects:
- 13 amp models
- 9 speaker models
- Noise Suppressor
- Compressor
- Chorus
- Flanger
- Phaser
- Tremolo/Pan
- Delay
It also has some Mic and Line effects.
There is no octave or pitch shifting effect. For that, you'd be better off with a BR-600. In addition to its octave and pitch shifter effects, the BR-600 has a Bass Simulator effect which does a very good job of simulating a bass guitar using a regular 6-string guitar.
I'm attaching a chart I created which compares the effects included with each BR model.

What does the defretter effect do?
Micro BR should have been built with an octave type effect or a bass simulator.

It seems like the BR-600 is a good choice too. And the BR-864 and 900 are very superior machines.

Recnick, I agree with the administrator and 64 guitars; you may be better off with the BR600. The Micro is a great, compact tool, but the 600 has the octave effect you want, plus great built in stereo mics for live or field recording, whereas the Micro has one built in mono mic. You can pick up the 600 for less than the price of a Micro plus a good octave pedal like the Electro-Harmonix Micro POG.
One serious consideration to take into account, is the Micro BR's compact size. I can slip it right into my guitar case, or my jacket, or wherever. I do wish I could record live stereo, or have stereo inputs, but I love having the ability to take it wherever and record ideas.
When I want to add bass...I grab a bass! I guess it all depends on your needs. For me, at $225, it's awesome! I've just begun to venture into the area of tweaking the effect patches. Every week I learn some new, cool thing that can be done with this little machine!

Jimmy, Micro BR has a stereo line input which you can use with external stereo microphones to capture live stereo. Recently members of microrecorders found an ebay seller that sells a Sony Stereo microphone for $10. Its not known if they are completely genuine though. Nothing sound like a bass more than a bass-even a cheap one can sound great
i must admit though, i'm resisting buying a 600-it's probably gear lust getting the best of me (and a recent bonus from work)
