My first uke composition, enhanced with cello, string ensemble, trumpet and flute via the ThumbJam App. All recorded on the MBR. Just a simple little strum-along.
The song is about Henry VIII's Mary Rose ship that sank in Portsmouth harbour. Tele Savalas reminded me about it recently, lol.
I've fallen in love with the uke! And it looks like I'm not the only one on here. I blame henwrench, lol :D
I have the 'Les Paul' type of Mahalo...

giving me gas greeny want one o those ukes looks cool as. loving the thumb jam app had a shot of tharek's need to move into the 21st century and get one o them too.
bloody magic, getting that crowded house feel from you hear especially now there is a uke in the mix.
Great song, the quality of those sounds from your iphone is quite amazing! There better than most synth sounds and your arrangement here is really impressive. When you use your phone how do you connect to your MBR?
Your Uke looks and sounds awesome, mines just plain and cheap...I'm coveting again!
Great job Greeny, glad your back!
Quote from: Hook on January 27, 2012, 06:24:58 AMWhen you use your phone how do you connect to your MBR?
Just a jack-to-jack lead from the headphone socket of the iPhone into the Line-in on the MBR. Simple!
The tricky thing with Thumbjam is that you need to choose the key the instruments are in (before you can get a tuneful accompaniament). I just do it by instinct / ear, but I'm sure there are people who understand this kind of thing a lot better.
Finally - I can put down the orchestral scores that have been in my head since I was a kid!
Now, this will be a good year !! Greeny's got a string-quartet on his hands !!
Stunning Tim ! Really beautiful. .... really amazingly beautiful !!!!!
piPod bound for sure !!!
AArrggghhh!!
Can't listen 'til I get home, work you see. Will do later tho.
Still think we should have a festival for Mandolin/Uke Banjo.
MANJOLELE fest!
Beauty song Tim! Tharek the thumbjam man told me to get that app and I`ll be downloading soon.
He used it amazing and now hearing yours i know it works well. Excellent sounds.
That uke looks and sounds great too!

I saw Tharek using it when we all met last Summer. I've been hankering after it ever since. It's taken this long to end my current phone contract and get the requisite upgrade!
I'm quite pleased at having Streetfighter II on my phone too... lol

It's 80's arcade-perfect! In every sound and detail. Deep joy, lol.

Is that a free app? Yes the Iphone is one amazing contraption.
I got this cool keyboard in a free app too. Search for Alchemy keyboard. I think it`s 210 mb so you`ll wanna download on wi-fi but it has some cool and interesting sounds.
Can't remember how much Streetfighter II was... £0.69p? £2.99? Not much in the scale of things. Have to search for it under 'Capcom'.
I'm amazed at the realistic sounds you got from the iPhone app Greeny! Excellent songwriting and vocals. The LP Uke looks and sounds too cool!

Ahh... ear candy on many ways... so good pop - just for my taste, as always by Tim. Btw, I ordered my first uke a couple days, ago. I haven't seen any "as alive" :) . I'm thinking (before I listened this) to buy a new cell phone. I'm considering to buy Nokia Lumia, but...hmmmm... Iphone has those incredible apps...let me think.... :)
Kari
Beautifully done, Tim...and an excellent arrangement on the strings. Nice to hear new additions to your already mighty palette. I must check out this ThumbJam app!
We need a UkeFest or an AppFest, or maybe both! AppUkeFest? ;) Hmm...well, maybe with a more appetizing name... :)
Greeny goes Folk - nice! :)
There must be some strange uke fever going 'round ...
Really well done, Tim!
Regards,
Steffen
Finally got to listen, its brill, that Thumbjam app sounds really good.

Magical!!!! A phone??? I still can not assimilate what is happening to the world with all this technology.
This track sounds fabulous!!!!
Outstanding work Greeny.
The orchestra sounds amazing.
It never dawned on me that you could use the earphone jack.
I'm gonna have to try that thumbjam app.
Are the chords on the Uke simular to the chords on the mandolin?
Very cool Tim, this works really well. Nice combo of orchestral instruments and uke, the ThumbJam stuff sounds really good. My son has an iPod and got Nanostudio on it, which is amazing. I was sorely tempted but decided not to get one, but might borrow his as this sounds so good!
Love the lyrics (those I can make out anyway) and the subject matter. Great idea for a song and wonderfully creative arrangement.
Cheers,
Nigel
Very, very, VERY good.
The song and the general sound are quite OK, but what here is stunning is the *natural*way you use the new technology. Perfect! This is the way I prefer.
Alfredo
I hate you.
henwrench
Oh yes Tim, i too have been afflicted with uke gas of late....
You certainly have got a firm handle on it!
I love this concept of the song, your vox is exquisite as we here
have become expectant of...., and I simply love the way you've
used the cello in this!!!

Tim! I'm loving this one. The Uke sounds great and well tamed. I tried one of those things the other day and it didn't quite sound like what you've recorded ;D
Well done, very cool bro!
Welcome back Tim!
It's a Green Monday for me, having been away for a week. What a return! Triumph!
Quote from: Nelson on January 27, 2012, 08:11:39 PMAre the chords on the Uke simular to the chords on the mandolin?
Nothing like I'm afraid. Less familiar than a mando, and the uke's tuning means it feels a bit odd, chord-wise. I basically made these chord shapes up (and wrote them down afterwards...), but I hope to get a few basic ones programmed into my head eventually.
this is very cool, and I am really impressed you did this with an App - also love the sound of the Uke..maybe oneday!
great song
andy
Gier just posted this on another thread but the uke is somewhat similar to the guitar. It's like playing capo 5th fret without the low E and A strings. So a D chord on the Uke is a G. It's not like every chord since is the same shape as guitar but it can help you figure your way around it you know your guitar neck well. I do not, so there are some chord charts available if you search google images, copy and print!
Great song brother!
Holy Fuck....
This is Amazing!
That TAXI lot would spooge their pants if they heard this!
It's just so good!
OH...MY...GOODNESS........excuse me for shouting.......but DAMN man what a sweet delicious song. How can I not smile when I listen to this, even though the subject is a sad one......thats the power of the uke. Use it for good Tim, only for good. You could stop all crime in London with the power at your fingertips here with the uke. You could become a caped superhero. Captain Uke.......uke-man......the Uked avenger.......something like that, with your uke-blaster of justice........

Great song, Greeny!
Oh my dear gawd...did you happen to get a green ukulele, Tim? Or was it the sunburst model?

Greenburst (picture updated above). :)
Ooh! I'd love a greenburst uke like that!
One from The Random Dozen,
Missed this little beauty originally.
Brilliant Tim.
