I nearly posted this in "What are you listening to right now? (https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?topic=149.0)" bit it didn't seem quite like the right place.
I totally agree with the narrator of this video (except for the creepy, stalker moment he has about Joseph Gordon Levitt):
Well, okay. Of course she
can sing; a little better than I can. It's just that she's not good enough at it to justify this lame part-time job she's created.
I kind of feel sorry for her, you know. She's successful, but chronically typecast. She's always The Girlfriend. I understand that. She wants to try something different. I've seen her in a few things. She must have some kind of clause in every contract: "In return for X million dollars, and playing The Girlfriend yet again, the studio will write a scene where Ms. Deschanel sings a song, and other characters will respond favorably to the quality of her singing."
Maybe it's a blend of a cry for help and extortion.
Somebody pitch me a script where I can play a different character and I won't insist on singing! But until you do, this She & Him business is going to continue.I mean, here we are on Songcrafters.org, with some of the best talent anywhere. And Zooey Deschanel is out there trying to pass for a singer, and not doing it well.
Life isn't fair.
Just had to get that off my chest.
I disagree.
I disagree also :o
The guy doing this vid is creepy and obvously has a problem with women.
She's a great singer and one I've been listening a lot to lately.
In fact in a few days I will have a cover of (She & Him) finsihed which is a colab with Mbee, just finishing the guitars and mixing and I will get it posted.
.............you might enjoy it Ted!?! ;D
She's also a pretty good songwriter.
Hmmm, IMHO she was great in Elf, and I loved her in Yes Man- some great tracks in there (although the other female singer in the wacky band has the really good voice).
andy
i've never heard of her, but i think she sings ok.i remember a similar debate years ago about debbie harry, and 30 plus years later her songs still stand the test of time.
I'd rather hear Zooey sing than Aldo .. but then again ... I wrote a song about her ::) ;D

ok ... it's title indicate that it's about her lovely sister (who btw has a nice voice too ;) ) but it's actually more about Zooey ... or rather one of the roles she has played ... ... ... well actually it's not, because alzheimer had apparently kicked in already when I wrote the song ... it wasn't Trillian, but Fenchurch that were flying around with Arthur ::) ... oh well ;D
BUMP BAIT:
And flying right beside me
is Trillian and you
Zooey bring your sister
then we'll be more than two (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=2137.0)

I enjoy her voice, its fragile and innocent.

Oh yeah you can put her on mute too and i`d be lovin that! Her voice sounds incredible on that uke
vid and it`s live to boot!
Isn`t her sister from Bones? She`s cute too!
You fella's must be listening with your eyes -- or through your crotches.
We bought a She & Him album,
Volume One, and played those songs in a mix together with the likes of Ingrid Michaelson, The Wailin' Jennys, Michelle Shocked, Cowboy Junkies, Liz Phair, Gillian Welch, and others. Whenever Zooey popped up on the playlist, it was like hearing someone sing Karaoke -- not particularly well.
When I want eye candy, a great voice, and good songwriting all in one package, I go straight for Jenny Lewis:
Pack it up, Zooey.

And? :P
There are a lot of famous people out there that can`t sing IMO but its all about delivery and opinion.
If i named singers i didn`t like some people on here would get offended. Like anything and everything
else in life, someone will always try and cut you down.
Here are 3 people that I hear get dumped on constantly for their voice.
Bob Dillon
Geddy Lee
Neil Young
In the end who is right? They are rich and famous? Wouldn`t that be called success?

Matt Dillon's brother? ;)
I like her style - it's a little loose, but she really knows how to swing her vocals.
Okay, so technically, Zooey may not be the most proficient singer in the world - and I'm sure opera aficionados would consider the vocal talents of entire field of popular music for the last one hundred years to be technically inferior to opera.
That doesn't mean she can't sing...
I'd been listening to a fair bit of She and Him recently. Never heard of Zooey in an acting capacity. To be honest, I'd not found her vocals offensive. Just a bird. Singing. Fine!

I was going to refer to opera myself. Can`t stand opera but when i heard this woman at the Olympics
I was overly impressed! She gave me the most goosebumps ever. Especially at the end! She even gave
Bobby Orr tears!

Stop not being the stereotypical man that you are Tony!
Reminds me of a Tim song, https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?topic=6718.0
You`re inspiring me to write a boob song now! :D
Here's your title:

Weird how you picked an artist that has M Ward (She & Him) as the lead guitarist again?
Or was that intentional?
I like this girls voice too!
