Written in 1988, re-worked this weekend at the request of my daughter with a slower and acoustic treatment
Will post a link to the original version in soundclick recorded in a studio in 1989, which was the gigged incarnation
I was living and working in Hungerford on 19th August 1987.. this song is inspired by the events of that day
Recorded to Sonar via EMU1616, Rode NT1, some double tracking, Tanglewood accoustic, Les Paul
Enjoy :)

Oh yeah, thats a song. This is so completely pro sounding. Very fine song and recording and everything.
Powerful and melancholy. It sounds fantastic, so atmospheric. Instrumentation is superb, sparse but enough to support the lyric perfectly.
Great vocals and all round superbly recorded.
I listened the both versions! The newest (slower) version is absolutely better. It is a good example of the evolution in home recorders...
Great tune indeed!! The "slower part" between 3mins to 4 works well! I could imagine Phil Collins singing this! :) Thanks for sharing the both versions...
Kari
wow hooked from the into, the acoustic refrain sounds like a harpsichord powerful stuff an absolute belter gonna listen to the soundclick version in a mo.
loving the 80's version too
I like this alot! It's a great recording and I love the build at the end, well done.
Rock on!
An epic number indeed Andy and yes I remember that day every time that Hungerford is mentioned. I could hear a band like Mountain doing this song in the same style as Theme for an Imaginary Western, it has that same gravitas. Fabulous piece of work..............Willie
This is a great song Andy! I like both versions. The original brought me back in time. Great song!!
Andy.... loved the 80's version, but the current slower version speaks to me in a heavier way. Great job all round. Great track. Love it.
An atmospheric bulider with great vox, loved the listen great work!!
Love that picking around 3:04 - Killer track, Andy! Very intense electric strums as well, and the vox have a great Phil Collins power to them.
You nailed it!
Mark
Pretty powerful stuff Andy, great performance and very intense songwriting. Really enjoyed this., I like the combo of acoustic and strings which provide a great platform for the vocals. Which are fantastic btw!
Cheers,
Nigel
I watched roger waters last year in the wall.
This would have been perfect in it!
Awesome work good sir !!
Indeed this is so very powerful. You have recorded it and sang it really well. I agree it would fit Roger Waters' set list easily.. Great production Andy!!!!
guys you are very kind, thanks for all the great comments and feedback, much appreciated! It was written as a straight rocker, and I understand was (is?) my kids fav song of mine still
glad you enjoyed!
andy
Man you can sing ! loved it, daniel
What an amazing piece of work. Beautifully written, performed and mixed. That's some sonic soundscape you've weaved here. The warm keys / pads underpinning the the guitar refrain work perfectly. Oh yes.
Your daughter is a visionary! This is such a great listen. I had to read up on what happened as I'm a history buff of sorts. Tragic.
WOW two imensly powerful versions of a great song !
I listened to the old version first and was struck by the power and the desperation in the voice. When I started the new one I thought, this can't be that good ... too "tamed" ... I was wrong !!!
Fantastic Andy !!
Nice job, man. I love it!
