Another old favorite.
War.
Anyone remember these guys?
Cool take on a classic Gene... Love the sounds u used... can you share how you got these sounds. Is this a keyboard??? love them drum sounds too and that bass line... you nailed it.
Thanks for the compliment.
This is a tune I've played with my band. Been a while since I last played it but the melody lingers on long after the dance has ended.
I played the bass and guitar tracks and the harp.
The horns and keys are synthesized on a GR-20.
The drum track was done on a DR-880.
I did two tracks of vocals.
The main vocal track is stereo widened, doubled and pitch-shifted by a harmonizer then compressed.
The harmony vocal track is stereo widened and doubled with a 30 millisecond offset between the tracks and a bit of reverb and compression.
I also used several effects plugins when editing the tracks with Adobe Audition.
Oh, yeah I love it! We play this one, and no matter how bad it sounds there is always a positive reaction. Such a great tune.
Well played and produced, bro - It's been Demonified fo sho! Plenty of attention to detail, and it just grooves your ass off!!
Sweeeeeeet!!!
Mark
I 've never heard of "wars" version of this song but Ive heard versions by Cheech and Chong and Exodus (Thrash Metal). ;)
I like this song and your cover makes me like it even more.
Good work SD. :)
Dont know the original
but this is a very Pro. recording in everyway-
congrats
Tommy
I remember it well. You nailed it and brought your own twist. Great drum programming. Playing is superb and I love the way you processed the vox.
Magic Gene. Real pro.
Thank you, gentlemen.
This tune was a real pleasure to play. I like songs with an infectious pulse.
Perhaps a song where the tempo and heavy accents match the pulse of a rapidly
beating heart. When the heart stops, the song is over.
Yeah , top tune , i love your take on it , that stereo image is amazingly wide
Robbie Burns
Yeah good stuff SD !!
Great song and vibe , you produced an outstanding recording !
Dunny
Thanks, Rob, Dunny.
Rob, the exceptional width of the stereo field and double tracking was achieved by using
Pitchwheel and Harmonizer plugins, in Audition.
Go here and check it out, along with several other nice VST plugins.

I always loved this tune. I always remember it from Cheech`n Chong`s Up in Smoke.
This is your best work yet Gene.
Thank you, Gnasty.
When I played this tune live there weren't any horns. Just guitars, harp, congas and timbales.
A good tune to get people to perform a mass mating ritual on the dance floor.
Much gyrating and a great thrusting of pelvises.
Take A Little Trip With Me
Really like this.
It's a Funky Cold Medina 8)
wow Gene, excellent! Have to agree this is the best I've heard from you - drum programming is oustanding, but the guitar panning, vocal mix, and that sax at the end... it all wonderful! I remember this as a kid, and always loved it
fantastic...take a bow
andy
Thank you, Andy, and Great White-with-insomnia.
The DR-880 saved my hands when doing this song. No way I would have actually played congas myself. Too hard on the hands. I did that on a gig. Once. By the next day my fingers were so swollen I couldn't play guitar. Several days passed before the stiffness and swelling went away. Bad news for a guitarist. I never played hand percussion drums again.
I don't play golf, either. I refuse to participate in any activity that requires hitting my balls with a club.
I am old, I know the original well and I love this! Great version, loving the vocal effects. Brill performance and production.
Cheers,
Nigel
Thank you, Nigel, and Great Finny One.
I like songs that appeal to our primal musical side. Heavy drumming.
Of course, it still doesn't beat a few good pole dancers.
OTD bump
Missed this first time round so great Bump Blooby .....Gene you are a master in fact your a Demon
Cool bump.
Fantastic cover Gene!
I'm grooving along in my chair here listening to this one!
I didn't even know who War was until Eric Burden played at a local theatre a few months ago and they played this on the radio to hype the concert.
I've heard this tune a million times, and I always thought it was Santana. :-[
Nice one Gene, Missed it first time around, good bump Blooby.....Alex
Thank you, gentlemen.
This song emphasizes the use of phasing and a harmonizer on the vocal track.
I'm not sure if the same effects were used on the original recording but it sounded nice so I gave it a shot.
