Hey Everyone, It`s been a while. Davidsen and I wanted to do a collab for a while and he picked this song and I was like oh, I love this song and so we did it! :D It`s a Tragically Hip song. One of many hits they have!
I finally got to post my new toy dr.880. I finger drummed this. Much more fun than programming and quicker! :)
Hope you enjoy and thanks Ken!!
Grace,Too
Gnasty - Vox,Right pan acoustic & Electric Guitar & Drums
Davidsen - Backing Vox,Bass, and Left Pan Electric Guitar and cool bends! -
Brilliant guys, 1st class playing and vox, great collab........ Alex
That's 5:46 of my life well spent. What a freaking awesome collab boys. You Canadians really know how to rock! Awesome!
I love this song too. And you guys did an awesome job...this is buzzing with energy and the vocal is right on the money...way to rip it up on those guitars boys. Killer cover!
Drums and bass are stunning!
Man this is good. I even had a colleague ask if it was one of mine and I had to say regrettably no but I would have been enormously proud if it had been. You guys should be really delighted, one of the best collabs I've heard, you were really on the same wavelength with this................Willie
Wow.... this is really excellent stuff. Love them driving guitars and the Vox... well too the freakin moon. Way to go fellas.
no familiar with this one but absolutely love it, what a great pairing of talents, you two need to do lots more together, bloody magic.
Everything sounds great! Real fine playing and singing and very impressed with the dr880
Hot damn, this is one helluva collab! 8)
I don't know the original, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to what you two have made here!
K.... so I listened to Tragically Hip... Never heard of them... Guess i'm tragically unhip!!! Them guys rock and you certainly nail'd this one to the Front Door... and then some.
This is outrageous! So very well performed and produced. Really well done this song really fit's you guys like gloves (you have to split a pair, budget cuts.)
Rock on!
Ahhhhhhhhh when the vocals come in....whoooosh thats the goods guys.........a fantastic pairing of talents here. The mix is really very good, it doesn't sound like a long distance collab, it sounds like you guys worked on this in the same room.......hell even better, it sounds live......how the hell did you get that live band sound? Definately a very top cover from two top notch dudes. My new favorite cover on here. I may listen to this one many many times. Great energy, great dynamics, great loose yet tight playing, great vibe, great vocals, great backing vocals, great guitars, nice tight bass, and really great job on the drums Gnasty, sounds like a real drummer banging away there. Take a bow. How did you get that live interaction between guitars there, the ending especially......live jam territory. I love it.
This is so good I can't stand it. You two have captured the live energy and dynamics and vibe of a live recording. Shit hot guys. I can't stay away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.......... a few more listens............damn guys..........I love that Gnasty guitar right at the end, last 30 seconds or so. I need to know how you recorded that............is that a mic'd amp I am hearing?
...............In fact I need to know a few details about how in the name of the gods this one was put together. What was done first, second, etc. Were drums done first or added later...........who assembled this all together at the end. How many mp3's back and forth between the west coast and Ontario did this take. Whatever you two guys did here, please do it again, the interplay between the parts is really stunning. What kind of machines were used? Did you use your BR-80 Gnasty. As you can see guys, I need to know some details here. This cover is killing me. Way to go.

I was going to ask Eric about that too , but I assumed he used his Mesa Boogie miced. He did tell me he used the new BR80 for the vocals , but i'll let him answer that.
Thanks for the nice comment Dave. I'll try a quick rundown of what I remember...but i'm going to start a new post because the text is bouncing and I can't see what i'm typing ! lol
Hey Thanks for the great comments!
This was put together really fast and i really didn`t have to tweek much in DAW at all.
I did forget to mention i used a couple other new toys. Here`s the breakdown.
Vox- Sm-58 plugged direct in the br-80. I shure like this for my voice and seeing levels better.
Drums - Dr 880 plugged line-in to br-80
Acoustic - I bought an L.R Baggs M1 pickup plugged direct into the br-80. I wasn`t happy with the tone
with it on this song but i`m still learning that process and hope to be better in the future.
Guitars - I can`t crank where i live right now so plugged into Br-80 from silent recording out on my Mesa Boogie
so no children or adults were annoyed during this recording.
The end crazy sounds were supposed to be miced and i wish they were because i wanted to emulate
the feedback. I love feedback but like i said i couldn`t so it was all done the same way. I just turned the dials on my Chorus and delay which and whatever the hell not giving a damn and VOILA! :D
Ken`s tracks were awesome and recorded on perfect levels. That is the key always. And those voice/guitar bends in the chorus were very amazingly done and important. I couldn`t do those. The smallest things are important.
This is so awesome!
I downloaded it to my mp3 player to listen to down at work,
and I had not heard it yet.... When it played I thought wow, this
is killer! i wonder who did this one...
Nice collab guys!
LG
Excellent job guys! Nailed it to a "T".
I love that you got the swells at the beginning too. That's detail man! Great job!
The whole song sounds spot-on, and the lead and backing vocals are damn near perfect.
This was always my cover band's last song of the night, and that hypnotic ending brings up some good (but blurry) jam memories.
Just an all-around great cover here guys. Really outstanding. I'm gonna listen to this one all day.
It's going into IPod rotation for sure.
The Tragically Hip might just be Canada's best rock band, and you guys did them proud with this one.
To all Songcrafters: I can't express how well these guys nailed this song. If you like this tune I would highly suggest picking up the Tragically Hip's "Day for Night", "Fully Completely", "Trouble at the Henhouse" or "Up to Here" albums.
Again - great job guys - I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Awesome guys !!!!!!!!!! you rock !!!!!!
Brilliant coolab with you guys ,, enjoyed it and want some more !!
Dunny
G-man! Awesome tune here. Great guitars and vocals.
Well done!
Ha, I found you!! Saw this one before I went to Chavezland and had no time to download music while I was there. Took me a bit to find it.
Damn, this is incredible boyz! You both are excellent musicians and really stepped up with the vox here too. Eric, my goodness, you should have been singing everywhere you have ever played - The best! And Ken, you always make everything work - You flat out rock!
I am full out blown away!! Hell yeah!! I'll be playing this one all the time.
Bump for the main man Ken, Kenny, Kenneth! :D
I've missed this...I'm not familiar with the original. This could be from the album "The Best Grunge Tunes"!! Brilliant! Is here more collabs from Gnasty and Ken???
Kari
