This project has been on/off for ages, thought I would try to finish it after the LitLR version responses earlier this month. The middle 8/refrain is longer, in fact it's all longer (over 5 and half mins! Apologies, I understand if you do not want to listen to it all!)
Written in 1984, the second guitar part and refrain were worked out a few years later, the original lyrics are below
p.s. I am sure I can hear a flaming metronome on one of the tracks!
Recorded on Sonar, vocal on NT1 single take, 12 string dean recorded on NT1 and 6 string tanglewood DI...and yammy bass
Enjoy :)
Lyrics:
I played a game of life in vain
I knew I'd never win
I'd plot a graph through the bottom of a glass
Refraction of what I'd seen
I gave all I had to my guitar and pad
Not guessing where it would lead
A deep thinking boy, just playing with the toy...of life
To glory indeed
To life I would grin, between the tumble and the spin
To programme was never my aim
I'd just sit around and watch the ball rebound
Well they said that life's a game
A chosen child astray and wild
Brought home to be with you
Such amazing love from a stranger above
His son died for you
OMG! This has the hairs on the back of my neck standing up.
Bloody marvellous. I'm still listening.

Oh my... this is very lovely... Love the lyrics. And the 12 string is simply divine. Love it to pieces. Thanks for sharing.
A very nice intro on the 12 string to a very delicate song and subject matter.
Nice re-work Andy.

Don't recall the LitLR version, but I haven't been on here much recently. This is a very emotional and well composed piece of music, with lush guitars and a great vocal performance. Nice work.
Cheers,
Nigel

Guys thanks very much for all the kind comments, there are some parts especially around the middle 8 I could tidy up, but all in all I am happy with it, think I got the spirit of the song across
