Nigels post talking about Bladerunner got me thinking about this , its a hard call but here are mine
Goodfella's
Apocalypse Now
Bladerunner ( the drectors cut )
The Godfather (1)
Terminator 2 , Judgment day
Rob
ooh thats a hard choice but right now off the top of my head
wild at heart by david lynch
skeletons by nick whitfield
apocalypse now by francis ford coppola
paths of glory by stanley kubrick
last tango in paris by bernado bertolucci
thought i would have had marlon brando in a few more of them but if i made this list tomorrow it would be different
oh the short story by david lynch should be in there mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I don't know if these are my top 5 of
all time. I'd have to see a list of all the movies I've ever watched to work that out. But, after a quick browse through my DVD collection, I came up with these five favourites:
- The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0311429/) (2003) - Sean Connery
- K-PAX (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0272152/) (2001) - Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges
- Godzilla (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120685/) (1998) - Matthew Broderick, Hank Azaria
- Bicentennial Man (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0182789/) (1999) - Robin Williams
- Life of Brian (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079470/) (1979) - Monty Python

Some low brow choices for me, but I love em....
Back to The Future (I and II)
Coming To America
Die Hard
Rocky
The Great Escape
let me think, nah thats too dangerous !
the man who would be king
2001
dr strangelove
life of brian
once upon a time in america
:-)
1. Barfly
2. The Royal Tenenbaums
3. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
4. Three O'clock High
5. The Incredibles
Celuloid - All the best moving pictures were made on this pre '70's and many still are today.
PVC - great for wrapping sandwiches.
LDPE - ok for keeping things moist in the microwave
HDPE - Great for keeping the things in your rucksack dry.
the thin film they put in thin film resistors. Super low noise stuff. Makes audio that much easier.

:D :D :D :D :D
Good list Mike ;D ;D ;D ... tho I'm a bit disappointed PVC was no 2 ::)
We're clearly quite like-minded guys on here... there are so many of my favourites already listed! Not sure which order to put them in, but here goes...
1. Goodfellas
2. Back to the Future
3. Pee Wee's Big Adventure
4. This is Spinal Tap
5. Tommy
Jeez... this is hard. I could reel off 20 faves easily, but boiling it down to just 5... ?! Godfather II, Teminator II, Life of Brian, Apocalypse Now, Meet the Paremts, The Lives of Others, Singin' In the Rain... so many others!
I just thought of another one I really liked a lot.
I.Q. (1994) - Meg Ryan, Walter Matthau, Tim Robbins
(http://www.axiom.tv/images/videos/IQ.jpg)
Walter Matthau plays Albert Einstein, Meg Ryan plays his niece, and Tim Robbins plays a mechanic who falls in love with her (who wouldn't?). Einstein doesn't like his niece's fiancé so he and his scientist friends cook up a scheme to help the mechanic win her over. It's funny and a really enjoyable movie. If you've never seen it, check it out.

In no particular order...
Ichi the Killer
Babe
Reservoir Dogs
Nuts In May
Jaws
henwrench
was nuts in may not a tv play.

Yes... and bloody brilliant it is too! Same as his other masterpiece 'Abigail's Party'.

Happy Go Lucky
thats the baby brill film
For me it would be:
This is Spinal Tap
Pulp Fiction
The Sixth Sense
Lif of Brian
Blade Runner (Director's Cut)
Blade Runner only just made it because as brilliant as the film is, the book is far, far better. I am a massive fan of PK Dick and in particular "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep", so when I first saw Blade Runner I thought it was very lightweight, despite the fantastic production. But I have grown to love it, although I could have defnitely made a better version and stayed truer to the book. Well, perhaps not......
Cheers,
Nigel
True Romance
Being John Malkovich
Memento
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Saving Private Ryan
Here's today's take on a list that is constantly changing for me:
North By Northwest
Miller's Crossing
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Inglourious Basterds
Hard Boiled
Tomorrow, I'm sure Kubrick will find his way back in there... ;)
The Godfather
The Spanish Prisoner
12 Monkeys
Psycho
Primer
1. Withnail and I
2. Shawshank redemption
3. Shaun of the dead
4. The Italian Job
5. Rocky
Honorable mentions to round out my top 10 11.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Death At A Funeral (original)
Gran Torino
Bedazzled (original)
The Bad News Bears
Zero Effect
Lord of The Rings - Return of The King has got to get a mention too.
hard ... but in no particular order...
1) Silence of the Lambs
2) Cinema Paradiso (the shorter VCR version not the DVD version) and once again Ennio Morricone excels himself with the score.
3) Shawshank Redemption
4) Time Machine (the original NOT the remake)
I will reserve the 5th spot for later.
Hmm... I don't think there is enough time to think about every movie I've ever seen and rank them to come to a top 5... So, I'll just glance at my library and see what seems to be my top 5 "right now"...
In no particular order...
Old Boy
Audition
Sin City
Fight Club
Snatch
Faster
Memento
Pan's Labyrinth
Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog
Once Were Warriors
Oh! That's not five! That's ten! Oops!
1. Cool Hand Luke
2. Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Fellowship of the Ring if I have to choose one of them)
3. Holy Grail
4. Galaxy Quest
5. The Cars That Ate Paris (OK not an out and out classic but has stayed with me all these years)
After seeing all these other great films , this is my second top 5
Avatar in 3D
Lord of the rings , Fellowship of the Ring
The Book of Eli
Man on Fire
The Good , the Bad , and the Ugly
Quote from: facemask93 on February 20, 2011, 09:20:23 AMMan on Fire
I'm not familiar with the movie but the song (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=1661.0) is awesome! :)

Hi, this is hard but 1. Blazing Saddles
2. Blade Runner
3. (It's a)Wonderful Life
4. Jaws 1
5. Reservoir Dogs
So many more I could choose but I could be shipwrecked with these 5............Willie
Oh dear, I forgot Pan's Labyrinth and LOTR. They should be in there, agree.
1. Star Wars IV, V, VI for the 30 years of entertainment (each time I see it I have this secret hope that this time the Empire will beat the crap out of the ewoks and crush the rebel scum)
2. Blade Runner, because of the soundtrack and because it is the only hardcore sci-fi that you can watch with a woman, have an intelectual debate and impress her providing you don't tell her that your favorite part is watching rutger hauer beating harrison ford's ass
3. Subway, by Luc-Besson, because of the car chase in the beginning and all the odd underworld in the Paris Metro
4. Monty Python (can't choose one -perhaps meaning of life)
5. Any Tarantino/ Roberto Rodriguez (can't choose one - perhaps Jackie Brown)
6. (six?errrr) Any Lars Von Trier
7. The Shining - It still scare me
8. Barbarella - Jane Fonda strip with 0-gravity, and the cheesiest soundtrack. What else?
9. Thoroughly Modern Millie Girl - Great soundtrack and fully dressed Julie Andrews. What else?
10. Any David Lynch (Lost highway? Mulholannd Drive? Lost Highway becase of the quote:
Mystery Man: We've met before, haven't we.
Fred Madison: I don't think so. Where was it you think we met?
Mystery Man: At your house. Don't you remember?
Fred Madison: No. No, I don't. Are you sure?
Mystery Man: Of course. As a matter of fact, I'm there right now.
Fred Madison: What do you mean? You're where right now?
Mystery Man: At your house.
Fred Madison: That's fucking crazy, man.
Mystery Man: Call me. Dial your number. Go ahead.
)
Honorable guest, #1 when i was a kid: The Goonies!!!!
bah! better post it now, tomorrow I'll change my mind
The Shining... how could I forget that?!
I think I'll have to have a top 30 to cram them all in!
Just off the top of my head without thinking:
My Fair Lady
Zulu
The Apartment
Animal House
Lawrence of Arabia
Interesting that My Fair Lady still comes out first, it's been doing that with me for nearly 40 years now, never been usurped...
If I was allowed another 5, these could come to mind:
Top Hat
The Pianist
Play it again Sam
Paleface
The Quiet Man
So many, so many...
Meet Me in St Louis
Scrooged
You've got mail
Debbie does Dallas
Sleepless in Seattle
I could do so many top 5 films...
1. Platoon - Don`t know why but i can watch this movie over and over. Great actors!!
Should i name them? You know em all..
and my fav line of all time by Tom Berenger..Cause when the machine breaks down, we break down.
2. Quest For Fire - I thought this was a well put together caveman movie for made in 1980.
For a movie with no talking of a language but caveman. You know exactly what`s going on. Genius!
3. Shawshank Redemption - Just a great story and great acting.
4. Goodfellas - Fav gangster movie of all time and i do like all the others but this one is endless
greatness. Joe Pesci shooting Spider is classic!
5. Wedding Crashers - I probably have a ton more comedies just as good as this but i thought this
one ruled and especially Will Ferrell at the end as Chaz living with his mom
and picking up chicks at funerals..LMAO!
Probably could change this around everyday. Hard to do this subject really :-\
Spartacus
How could I have forgotten that!!
I quite like The Vikings as well if we're talking Kirk & Tony, that was one of my favourite films when I was little.
QuoteDebbie does Dallas
a great plot line and believable characters but it's not "aunt peg" that's got everything.
