And I'm glad I did! Hi everybody,
OK... heres my short story:
Used to play in a band many, many moons ago. Been playing guitar on and off for 30+ yrs. But after college I put it down for about 10 years (various silly reasons...lost interest, marrige, house, job etc, etc) ???. When I finally picked it back up, because of how long it took me to regain the skills I had lost, I swore I'd never do that again. So anyway, here I am and life is still too hectic to commit to a band. However, when I picked the guitar back up, music technology had advanced so much and I was totally blown away. I'm talking about MP3s, backing tracks, utube video lessons, home recording machines and the list goes on and on. The days of wearing out 45's (or even CD's for that matter) in order to learn a new song are over for sure. So about a year ago I picked up a BR-600 and decided to begin a new revolution as a home boy music producer (my own music that is). I've just got to say THESE THINGS ARE FUN! Man, I wish I had one of these when I had my band. Anyway, I was surfing for some BR forums and ran across your site and it's really exactly what I was looking for. I have some pretty descent gear that I've retained as well as picked up recently (several guitars and nice tube amps). I've also picked up a few new mics and preamps. So....I've recorded a few cover tunes since I started and now I find myself going through an old school blues phase. I figure it will at least get me grounded since I'm an R&R guy at heart. These recordings are my first attempts and is what I will be posting in the near future. Glad I found this site. Thanks to all.
Mark
Welcome to Songcrafters, Mark. It sounds like you'll fit right in here. I look forward to hearing some of your music.
Welcome from Montreal.
You are right about technology propelling us into a musical space age.
The BR is a great tool, but I would not have learned much about it had it not been for this site.
Welcome Mark.
Your story is pretty much identical to mine (and probably a lot of other members here too).
You definitely came to the right place.
Great people, great support, and great administrators that keep things fresh and organized.
I am a BR600 owner too. I occasionlly mic an amp, but most often just use the built-in GTR effects.
I usually post the BR600 effects patches when I post a song in case other BR600 users want to know.
Look forward to hearing some music from you!
Welcome Mark!
Can't wait to hear some of your stuff!
Hey guy's
I'd love to post a tune but what is the best way to get my 37.6 MB .wav file converted to a 6MB .mp3 file.
The .wav file is what I get from the BR-600 and it's always big.
Thanks
Mark
I use Audacity, but someone on here can probably give you more (or better) info.
As Vanncad mentioned, Audacity is a great (and free) way to make mp3s from your WAV files. You'll also need the LAME mp3 encoder, but it's easy to configure - all of this is on the Audacity site.
Another way would be to do the encode in iTunes.
There are many programs available that can do the conversion. For example, you could try Switch (http://www.nch.com.au/switch/). Personally, I just load my WAV files into Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) and export them to MP3 format. That way, I can also trim the ends and normalize the level while I'm at it. Audacity is definitely a worthwhile program to learn anyway. So, if you don't already have it. I'd recommend that you download version 1.3.12 and install it now. Instructions for installing the LAME MP3 encoder are here (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3). It's needed to export in MP3 format from Audacity. The Audacity User's Manual is here (http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Main_Page).
Welcome aboard Mark....I am dying to hear your music....as you can see by my site name I am a blues fanatic too and I can't wait to hear some of your blues.
Dave
A big welcome from Norway too Mark. Your story sounds quite familiar :D so I'm certain you've cometo the right place.
Yeah ... let's hear some of your music (Audacity is a good advice, a lot of us use it. For just conversion you can use a LAME frontend like Razorlame)
Welcome from London!!
Looking forward to Hearing your stuff! Sounds like we are in for a real Treat!
Thanks again everybody..........I'll give Audacity a shot. I may even already have it.

Hello and welcome from France Mark. Never feel afraid to post your music here, only good guys and constructive comments !
Welcome aboard Mark. It sounds like you definitely have the bug again. I too look forward to your music. I remember when I joined here, people said they wanted to hear my music. I could barely strum a chord. I learned two more, called it music and posted it.
As a result of this site (and camaraderie) I know about 5 more chords, and can crank out some decent lead guitar.
Be forewarned, this place is highly addictive and fun.
welcome aboard fishinstix great posts
Hey Mark!
I am sort of new here too. Love your stuff! Awesome guitar work! The BR-600 is a powerful little machine. I use GarageBand to mix everything and it has worked well for me. This is a friendly and helpful place. Love to hear more!

Everybody,
Thanks so much for the the terrific welcome. Can tell this is a very hospitable place.....open to all and everyone. There are very talented and artistic people here and your all very kind. I've been working on some blues covers for awhile now (way before I found this great site) and yesterday posted them in the "covers" section. Sorry for my exclusive ZZ blues but I just cant help myself. See, I got this new Les Paul and I'm trying to capture the Billy G. tone. Something I've never been able to do. I've always been a Fender guy and I've finally broken out of the rut. Now, if I could only shake the blues.....LOL!. Don't worry, once I finally figure out I don't have Billy's fingers (like that's possible), I'll move on. Please be patient...........however there's at least one more on the way.
Thanks again,
Mark
If your Les Paul feels like playing Gibbons licks, who are you to stop her...Les Pauls are like that, they go where they feel like it, can't tame them, just go with it. How about some Early Fleetwood Mac, got any of that Green vibe? Les Pauls are cool guitars for sure. What kind do you have Mark, what model?
Hey Blues!
R9...a few years old...I'm very proud of her. Now you understand the Gibbons thing with Pearly Gates and all. Hee HEEE
Welcome to you and your Les Paul! That's some tasty stuff you play and sing...
Hello from Vancouver. Welcome to the site.
Sandy.
I too stumbled on this site by accident, praise the lord that I did. Like you I hadn't played for about ten years after a lifetime of pro or semi pro outfits ( I should be better). This site has encouraged me and helped me through the last year. Enjoy and take what is freely offered.............Willie
Welcome...I found this site nearly 3 years ago, and all I wanted was to ask questions how to use my Micro BR, just so I could actually record something on it.
The inspiration and help of others on here lead me to start writing and recording songs and posting them on here. Without question, this site has now become an integral part of my life.
As others have said...this place is addictive!
