Former journalist/lecturer/translator. Long-time English-language copyeditor.
I work freelance, mainly from home. Not really a "day" job, since I can work whatever hours I like.
Quite an advantage.

PS: Chip, I know what you mean about teaching gigs. Just for the experience, I once spent a year teaching literature/photography/media studies to high school kids (aged 13-18). Job-wise, it was the most gruelling year I've ever had.   Was relieved to get back to teaching at tertiary level and later privately.  

A lot more fun having students who want to learn.
