I've got a nail
On the end of a stick.
I take my turn on my terms.
I take my pick

And my guitar,
And my dustpan.
Consider me a public servant.
I'm the cleanup man.

Oh let me have my say.
I've got so much on my mind.
I feel I'm overflowing
Like a neglected
Garbage can.
I'm the cleanup man.

I've got a beef
With my HOA.
I could make this long story short, but
You've got all day.

I've got e-mail
I point and click
And fill your inbox up with
My politics. (You're welcome.)

(Chorus)

I haven't posted any new music since April, when I was in the midst of a very long transition between homes. When things started to settle down, I decided to spit out a quick song and get back into the game--even that took about two months.

Much thanks to Tony W who offered to escort me with some guitar for my comeback.

Ted, this is fine, fine, fine.  Tony you sound positively wonderful here, your electric is perfect for what Ted is laying down.  And what that Ted is laying down is a monster song, really fine.  Welcome back to posting songs with a bang.  I get a Wilco vibe sorta, quirky Alt.Country, Tony's guitars are playing their part perfectly, I am rambling here guys, I LOVE this one Ted.  Hot damn, Ted's back in the game.  Fantastic song.

I'd love to take credit for some fantastic lead work, but I gotta tell you, I just sent some straight up tracks to Ted and he got creative in a liberal fashion. It's brilliant, and thanks for making me sound so good Ted!

Thanks everyone.  Rather than follow my famous protocol, I'll bask in the attention right now.

I ran my voice through a Digitech Vocalist Live 2 onto two tracks, which added a lower harmony. I wasn't satisfied with the stereo separation, so I offset one track from the other by 3/100 sec.  This wasn't an effect I was after.  I was just too lazy to try to sing a harmony part. Glad you like it.

I think I need to investigate Wilco. I never would have thought Alt.Country on this, but that's definitely a genre that interest me.  More on Tony's great guitar below.

I added the lyrics to the initial post. (Thanks for asking.)

Really? I don't really relate to them. I tried to put myself inside the head of someone I barely know, and understand his perspective.

Tony sent me eight--eight!--takes of a solo. It seemed a shame not to use them all. Yes, I did do some Cuisinart on Tony's guitar, but if the guitar wasn't great to begin with, it would have been "Garbage in; garbage out."

It was great to have so much raw material.  For example, I knew I wanted a swell coming out of the chorus, but hadn't decided if I was ambitious enough to figure something out. Suddenly, I had it right in front of me. It just took a little Audacity to reverse a sustained note and make some Tony swells.  But Tony's solo is the highlight of the song--with no Audacity gimmicks.
