We're SongCrafters, not LensCrafters. No need to make songs in under an hour.  :D

Take your time. It's art, not mass production. But maybe I'm just saying that because I can't write songs at all. And, even if I could, it would take me at least a month.  :-[

It's seems to often be the case that lots of time spent on a song doesn't always equate to quality. Sorry to keep harping on about the Beatles, but some of their marathon recording sessions and 50+ takes were reserved for songs that nobody would consider amongst their best (Ob-la-di Ob-la-da weighed in at a riduculous 42 hours, and Maxwell's Silver Hammer which pretty much made Macca hated by the others, to name but two). I do think that the REALLY good songs arrive with a magical spontineity. 'Hey Jude' was apparently written in the car by Mcca on his way to visit Cynthia Lennon. Personally, I know my best songs are the ones that arrived quickly. There are others I've tortured myself over only to find that they would never be anything more than average.

I agree that it's about quality and not quantity though. And people write in very different ways. There's also the Dylan method of writing 6 songs a day and maybe only keeping one.

Blimey!! This is good and slightly nuts, too. I would love to know what Lennon would have made of this!!  I reckon he would've injected heroin after reading some of this and then beaten up Yoko and gone on another 'Lost Weekend', if he had any sense....

That person had alot of time on their hands to analyze every song in every aspect. Interesting, but yet doesn`t that make them ones to be analyzed themselves???

I appreciate the in-depth analysis (well, I appreciate what I can understand in the analysis) - thanks for posting it, RMO!

I think someone like George Martin could understand it all completely (and probably confirm or contradict...I'd love to see something like that). The Beatles themselves, they probably were just going for what sounded good to them and their golden ears. :)
