Today all us Canadian fellas are off work today (well not everybody, sorry for anybody stuck in work today) getting ready to party, it is the official celebration of our great country, Canada Day.  You guys have any favorite Canadian bands or singers, etc.  Lets see them, in celebration of Canada Day.  I'll start off by putting up one of my favorite bands, Blue Rodeo.  I see these guys every chance I can, deadly live.  This is good Canadian Alt.Country and I like it very much.  These guys are a huge influence on my songwriting.  Anybody else have any they like?

*******Note to Admins:  Maybe we should do this kind of thing for the national day of every member on here, it is a dandy way to discover new music and have a little cyber party in honor of the day.  I think it would be a great idea.  Put the dates on the calendar and lets do it. *************

But I'll kick off with the obvious....

That was my first choice, but I didn't want to start off with something too obvious.

For me, it has to be Robbie Robertson. One of my main musical heroes and one hell of a guitar player (although he's never really given the credit he deserves...). I've being trying to get my son into The Band via 'The Last Waltz' movie.

I love this solo one of his..........

A bit of Gordon Lightfoot never goes amiss either. Oh, and Leonard Cohen is pretty awesome too (not only for his music - his first novel was a cracker too).

Canada can keep Celine Dion though!!!! That's one export that should be banned!

I found that out first hand many years ago. I drove from Maine to Quebec, and couldn't work out why every single radio station was in French. I had this kind of preconception that it would be bilingual there. I was very, very wrong! My tiny amount of French didn't get me very far in Quebec. Even in McDonalds! It was an interesting experience though.
